“A large majority of kids with disabilities get bullied” (Harder). Sadly, it is very common for people with disabilities to get bullied. There are many reasons that people with disabilities get bullied. Sometimes, children with disabilities get bullied because of the ignorance of other people. People think that they cannot be friends with someone just because they are different (Harder). A lot of times, people do not know what to do or what to expect (Harder). Many times it is not a mean stereotype, people become uncomfortable so they treat people with disabilities horribly (Harder). Many times, people do not understand or know about the disability that someone has so they decide to treat that person terribly just because they do not understand. This is why it is important for people to be educated about people with disabilities. People just want to feel better about themselves so they decide to pick on the people who look different, act different or are different (Harder). Some of the times that kids with disabilities get bullied, it is due to the fact that the bully is insecure. They think that maybe the child with a disability can not understand them or will not be hurt by the bullying, so they decide to pick on the kids with disabilities. Sometimes it is just that the bully can easily find something to tease the person with a disability about. Unfortunately, people with disabilities are common targets for bullying. People might treat a person with a physical disability differently because they look different or sound different (Harder). They might treat them differently because they can not do certain things (Harder). People treat people with cognitive disabilities almost worse than they treat people with physical disabilities because they think that due to the fact that they look normal, they should also act normal (Harder).
