Java Culture, a coffee shop that serves the Oregon area of the United States, offers best tasting coffee beverages. The coffee shop makes use of high quality ingredients that are prepared under very strict guidelines. There are a number of business concepts that can be charted to be able to directly compete with the business; Java Culture. First, the business should offer premium quality coffee that is imported from the premium cocoa growing countries such as Brazil. The preparation process should follow the most pristine quality preparation guidelines thus ensuring that the products of firm are of very high quality and thus serve the purpose of the premium quality offering (Longenecker, Petty & Palich, 2012). Rather than focus on a few products as Java Culture currently does, there should be a focus on the provision of a wide variety of products for instance brewed teas, espresso drinks and other refreshment beverages which will be sold at the coffee bar of the firm. The firm can also add more products for instance sandwiches, pastries for the clients as well as small salads (Ferrell & Hartline, 2011). Coffee beans and preparation information will also be offered to the gourmet customers who usually prefer to make their coffee in the comfort of their homes. Overall, Starbucks’ performance has been mixed over the past six months. On April 13, 2012, its stock price reached a high of $61.67 per share and closed at $57.37 per share. Since April, the price of Starbucks’ stock fell on average in the following closing months of May and June before reaching a low of $43.16 in the opening days of August. The fall was correlated with the release of Starbucks’ third quarter annual report, which showed a less-than-expected performance for that quarter; the earnings per share were $0.43 compared to a market expectation of $0.45 (Baertlein). Since then, the price of Starbucks’ stock has gradually increased. Although market risk factors like decreased consumer spending may have impacted Starbucks’ recent performance, Starbucks has still remained profitable, and there are generally positive expectations for the next year.…

29th Street Café is a small privately owned diner that is located near my home. It has been open for as long as I can remember. Their hours are a little odd for a restaurant; they are open from Tuesday to Sunday between afternoon and early the next morning, which is good for me because I am a night person due to working a 3rd shift job. The diner has a highway truck stop feeling to it, like a mom and pops style diner. Twice a month my wife and I meet a friend for breakfast at this diner. Since my first visit I have looked at several things to evaluate to keep me going back, some of these things include the service, food and cleanliness.…

Regarding the tastiness of Starbucks, David P. Goldman strings together an unappetizing, lost report filled with useless information and overflowing bias. His article includes no relevant facts and oddly presents a poet’s giant quote about culture while somehow relating it to coffee. Goldman values his own loud opinions rather than the public’s and dumps cringe-worthy, biased rants onto his writing. He bluntly states the most sensitive issue in American culture revolves around coffee and continuously fires coffee-obsessed stereotypes on readers. Obviously, Goldman holds no professional voice as he childishly disses the drink-station. When describing Starbucks’ drinks, he utilizes crude adjectives to somehow demonize the beverages as he worships…

Idaho has a big smile across its belly. They call it the Snake River Valley and it goes all the way from the Wyoming border to the Oregon line. JJ and I drove through that smile with headwinds so strong that I swear we were standing still on the highway with the pedal to the metal! “Santiago” used a ton of gas on that stretch. So much, that we actually saw the fuel gage drop from ¾ full to ¼ in 30 minutes at one point. Sure, it’s funny NOW, but it was fairly stressful for little ol’ me and we needed to find a spot to park and call it a day. Where would that wind blow us?…

    Cariboo Cafe Summary

    • 352 Words

It is difficult to overlook how the conflicts in Central American countries are themes in the Cariboo Café, El Norte, The Tattooed Soldier, and multiple other readings this semester. In “Cariboo Café,” written by Helena Maria Viramontes, conflicts in Central American are a theme because the reader is constantly reminded of the reason why they came to the United States of America in the first place. For example, from the first paragraph the reader is informed that the family is cautious around authority figures including the police and especially La Migra. The reader gets a feeling that government corruption or an oppressive government forced the family out of their previous country. Furthermore, the oppressive government that the United States…

Around lunchtime in Starbucks today I observed a little boy around the age of ten in the check out line with his mom. I could definitely tell he did not want to be there. The boy came across as very unappreciative towards his mother as he demanded her to get him a smoothie. He did not just want a smoothie; he wanted the most expensive thing on the menu. Money clearly was not a worry to him; it looked like he got everything he asked for. He looked like a very privileged child since he was wearing brand new Nike shoes and a button up Polo shirt.…
