Caldecott’s to date! Tuesday demonstrates extremely well drawn images that tell the story, this accompanied by the specific audience and appropriateness of a children’s audience make it an easy victor of the 1992 Caldecott Award. During the picture book Tuesday, we see the magical voyage of floating frogs on lily pads. The cover alone grabs your attention and sparks your imagination! I remember going through this book as a young kid, given it only
has a few words, the images truly do tell the story. Ultimately what put Tuesday in a league of its own was not only the incredible images, but the conclusion of the story, where we see a group of floating pigs. This open ending truly makes you as both a child and adult image the pigs having a similar journey to the frogs. I believe that it is this ability to inspire imagination that warrants Tuesday earning the 1992 Caldecott Award.
