What is an enterprise system and how does it work? Discuss at least three (3) ways it can provide value for a company.
Answer
In today’s competitive business environment, where every business is going global and to manage every functional department such as finance, marketing, human resource or operation along with all the business process, information flows, reporting etc. at each different location or places is itself a big challenge for every organization. In such condition there is a need of enterprise system in place, which will help the organization to integrate all such requirements into one single application tool and with the implementation and integration of enterprise system throughout the organization will make the system of managing things more efficient and it will also make life easier for all within an organization.

We can say that enterprise system such are enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, enterprise planning system etc. are considered to be application packages which tends to support and integrate all the business processes, reporting, data flow information, etc. in an organization.

Enterprise system such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise planning system etc. works by integrating all the data and the business process of an organization into one single centralized enterprise systems (e.g. in many automotive organizations there is one single enterprise resource planning system integrated to manage all its functions to which all its standalone units are attached which help them to manage things efficiently than ever before) where all the functions can be managed centrally.

The keys to successfully implementing an enterprise system involve training technical staff properly, maintaining the software, and upgrading of current systems. Implementation of a system has to have knowledgeable staff

(Laudon & Laudon, 2011)Let’s say, for example, the financial department of an organization needs to audit all of the orders fulfilled by the Sales and Marketing department. With an integrated enterprise system, there is no need to request the information and wait for it to be sent to the financial department from the distribution center. Both departments are linked by a central database that they can both access at any given time. This reduces the time between requesting the data and utilizing it for the department’s needs. If the Sales and Marketing department does not keep the Distribution department aware of what is being sold, then prompt delivery of the product cannot be guaranteed. These enterprise systems also increase the security of the database. Having separate databases for each department will increase the chance for lost data. The needs of each department can be considered separate, but when looking at it from an organizational perspective, each department is a part of a larger entity. This entity cannot survive without the cooperation of each of its departments working together.…
