The Theory Cognitive Development is a mental process of development. The Theory of Cognitive Development in childhood shows the thought, intelligence, and language process as it changes as a child grows and develops. The Theory of Cognitive Development shows how thought can influence a person’ s behavior. This theory will be important in my future profession of nursing because nurses are the ones who assure growth and development of a child. When a child goes for a doctor’s appointment, the nurse always takes the child’s weight and height to determine that a child is growing and developing properly. Also, nurses focus on the child’s history and their developmental milestones. The developmental stage of a child is determined by observation. The nurse will listen to how the child describes their self and how the parent describes the child. Understanding how a child has developed as they have grown helps nurses in explaining a sickness the child has or a procedure the child might be having done. Diseases and sicknesses can affect children at different stages of development in their life. The knowledge of the child’s development is important for nurses to know and understand so they can educate the child and their parent of the disease or sickness. For a child, their ability to learn, understand, and acquire knowledge are all apart of the Theory of Cognitive Development. Being a nurse, the Theory of Cognitive Development will be useful in assuring that the children will grow and develop healthy and strong as they mature into
