What Is Better Than Free Seating

Free seating versus assigned seating is often argued across all grades. This creates the question, “Which is better between the two?” Both assigned seating and free seating have their own benefits. However, free seating is the superior choice because students learn better when in a comfortable learning environment while building the responsibility of the student.
Having a friend in a class makes students feel like they will enjoy the class. According to Edutopia, an educational foundation, “Environmental design shows the positive effect comfort can have on learning human productivity, and creativity.” This directly relates on how the student feels about the classroom. When sitting with friends, the student is more likely to feel comfortable and be a part of the classroom. However, when a student is not in an environment, say with people the student is uncomfortable sitting next to, the student is more likely to feel disconnected with the class. In addition, Edutopia has done a research on the engagement level of students. Their research has shown that students who are engaged “Are more likely to persist through academic struggles.” When engaged in the class.
