Watsons’s Theory
The theory is set on four main ideas; person, health, society, and nursing (Gonzalo, 2011). According to Dr. Watson (Watson, n.d.), this theory of Human Caring, identifies that caring is at the core of nursing and as a professional nurse, we have a responsibility to provide the best possible setting for healing to take place. This theory has evolved over time since the founding of the theory in 1975-1979; a spiritual element and a sense of kindheartedness and love were added(Watson, n.d.).The Theory of Human Caring is very important now in 2017 as many people are using computers in their day to day life, according to Pew Research Center in 2015, 68% of …show more content…
Watson’s original theory was structured with ten carative factors as a foundation to provide a nursing summary,(Watson, n.d.).
Carative factors
The ten carative factors are 1. a selfless social system of beliefs. 2. Faith and hopefulness. 3. Compassion to self and others. 4. Assisting authentic caring relationship. 5. being supportive in positive and negative feelings. 6. Creatively using problem-solving methods in caring and healing practice. 7. The promotion of teaching-learning in a wholeness and meaningful way. 8. Creating healing environment at all levels, whereby wholeness, beauty, comfort, dignity, and peace. 9. Assisting with human needs, in a wholeness way. 10. Open to soul care for self and patient,(Wagner, 2010).
Metaparadigm concepts
Watson’s theory has four main points’ person, health, society, and nursing. Person- is greater than the sum of parts. Health is a level of functionality in everyday life, without illness.
