What Is Judgement At Nuremberg A Fair Trial?
The central storyline of “Judgement at Nuremberg” was the injustice in Nazi courts. The primary Judge of focus in the film was Judge Ernest Janning. When considering his guilt or innocence, I am very torn. The biggest argument in this case is can “I was only following orders” be justified and supported to prove innocence. The laws of Germany as discussed in The Nuremberg: A fair trial reading, state that following orders is not allowed defense. With this mind, the defendants are completely left without a defense. The prosecutor opening statements discusses the complacency with Nazi rule shown by the judges and the blatant disregard for moral values. Although I completely agree with everything stated by the prosecutor, I do not agree that broke …show more content…
Thomas More is challenged to compromise his beliefs and when unwilling to do so is killed. His daughter notifies him of the new oath being presented and that charges of treason are being threatened if you do not accept. After learning the Oath would name the King as head of the church, Sir Thomas refuses to take the oath. Sir Thomas knows that he cannot be charged if he refuses to express his objections. At Sir Thomas’ trial, Rich details an exchange he had with him during his lock up in Tower of London. Due to Rich’s false testimony, Sir Thomas is sentenced to death by beheading. Even with the knowledge of the false testimony by Rich, I believe Sir Thomas is guilty of disobeying the state (King Henry). He was blatantly showing disloyalty to the King. However, I do not believe he should have been found guilty. The legal technicality of the false testimony would guarantee he would not have been killed. Without the testimony of Rich, there is no stated reason and therefore he could not be convicted. Sir Thomas stood behind his beliefs at the sacrifice of his …show more content…
The mother believes that a dingo ate her. From the beginning, no one believed it to be true and thought it she was murdered by the parents. In this particular case, because no evidence could prove this outlandish story of the parents, I would say it would be the defenses job to comprise the audience. Before this case, no incidents of a dingo eating a baby had been heard of. Although, it should be the attorneys capturing the audience or jury, this trial was tried by the media. The parents were drug through the mud and slandered. Because of Lindy’s demeanor, she was not relatable. The outcome of this case was ultimately affected the heavy media presence and coverage. This was perfect story for the media to run with. With no body found, the thousands of theories given and suspected were endless. The media also exploited the rare religion of the Chamberlain’s to feed into the media frenzy creating the theory of a sacrifice. This was a trial by media and opinions, not just a jury of your peers in the court of law. Because the media presence was so strong and the no single piece of evidence could prove to the Chamberlains story, Lindy was found

“…since the body of the 6-year-old child-pageant contestant was found in the basement of her parents' sprawling Boulder, Colo., home, there have been no arrests.” ("The Death of a Little Girl; Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey Is Just One Mystery in the Colorado Murder That Has Captivated--and Repulsed--a Nation. Why Aren't the Parents Talking? Why a Three-page Ransom Note? Are Police Mishandling the Investigation? Nothing in This Case Has Been Routine.: Home Edition). Many people have accused the family of the death of Jonbenet because the authorities have no evidence of anyone else in the house. Most people have said that the murder was an accident by either Patsy, her mother, Burke, her brother, or her father, John Ramsey. These people believe that the family decided to hide the death from police to protect their family after a terrible accident out of anger. Some think the death was caused by a Santa that they visited the day of Christmas, because the Santa they visited in their mall the day before also had a daughter that died the day after Christmas, was this a coincidence or an attempted murder? Many also believe it was caused by a random person who wanted to hurt the Ramsey family. “ To the police-and to much of the public, the girl's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, are the key suspects, but the Ramsey’s steadfastly maintain their innocence.”…

Assignment 12: The McMartin Case The media greatly favored the prosecution while the trial began. The media did not question the prosecution and rarely, if at all, mentioned anything from the defense. David Shaw even wrote about the skewed coverage that occurred during the trial. On March 5, 1770, British soldiers were badgered to the point of outrage by a small group of boys (Wheeler and Becker, 75). The soldiers eventually retaliated at the group and the church bells started ringing alarming the town that a fire had broken out only leading the numbers in the crowd to increase (Wheeler and Becker, 75). His doctor, Doctor Jefferies, later said that Carr did not blame the soldier who shot him. Carr was surprised that they did not shoot sooner. His ‘deathbed testimony’ was presented to court by Dr. Jefferies as follows, with Jeffries repeating what Carr said to him. “Prosecutor- Were the soldiers greatly abused? Jefferies- Yes, they were. Prosecutor- Would they have been hurt if they had not fired? Jefferies- Yes. Prosecutor- So they fired in self-defense? Jefferies- Yes, and he did not blame whoever it was that hit him.” This testimony was believed due to the fact that the jury did not think a dying man or his doctor would lie (Boston). This short excerpt from a newspaper article about the Boston massacre supports Carr’s testimony about the soldiers being harassed, “The noise brought people together; and John Hicks, a young lad, coming up, knocked the soldier down but let him get up again; and more lads gathering, drove them back to the barrack where the boys stood some time as it were to keep them in (Boston Massacre Historical).” Carr’s words let the soldier that shot him go free and spread unrest among the colonists. Samuel Adams took…

Many people have thought of the Nuremburg Trials as a very controversial topic, but I really only see one side to it. In my opinion, I believe that the Nuremburg Trials was a good and fair way to bring German military officials to justice. Firstly, after what they had done to the Jews, the Trials were the least that the Allies could have done. During WWII, the Nazi’s altogether managed to murder over 6 million Jews across Europe, so punishing the people who participated in the genocide wouldn’t be unfair at all. Therefore, the men who were forced to attend the Nuremburg Trials deserve to face the consequences for their crimes against humanity. In addition, if the trials never happened, the tragedy that happened to the Jewish population would have been left unanswered. For example, there were many Jewish holocaust survivors that had lost family and friends who were desperately looking for justice and revenge. For the sake of all the tragedies that the Jews had to face, the…

Being such a problematic case that could ruin his reputation, John Adams accepted to defend the soldiers because of his experience in difficult cases, and his strong principles and beliefs. John Adam’s reputation did not even tarnish because of how skillfully he handled the case gaining the respect of the people of Boston.…

March 1st, 1932, twenty-month-old Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr., son of aviator Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh was abducted from the family’s New Jersey home, prompting a massive search of the area (Zorn 45). Anne found a ransom note in the empty baby’s room asking for $50,000 (“Body”). She saw that a ladder was used to climb up to the open second-floor window. There were also muddy footprints left behind. That is all the investigators found. Then the Lindbergh parents got another ransom note asking for $70,000 (Zorn 49). They made plans to drop of the money. The kidnapper said the baby was on a boat, Nelly. The baby was not there (“FBI”). Someone had found the baby close to the mansion buried. For the next two years, detectives worked diligently to identify the killer (Zorn 57).…

Silence. Silence is what the audience awarded to Jerry Lee Lewis in London, the first stop on his European tour. While he sat at the piano--banging his bony fingers onto the keys with all of his strength, his hair flying in front of his face, sweat dripping down his face, putting all of his energy into his music until he simply had to kick the bench to the side and stand because sitting did not do the song justice--the audience refused to engage in his exuberance. Noticing this, he withdrew from his euphoria and said, “Y’all don’t have to jus’ stand there all quiet.” So they listened.…

Who should be put to trial, the individuals who gave the orders? The people who carried out the orders? Those who allowed it to happen? Those who gave the orders are the one who should be put on trial. Those orders that were responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews. You can't blame the soldiers nor people who carried out the orders. It's not their fault they have to listen to their higher ups, especially back in World War 2 where you would probably be getting killed for not following orders. According to handout #65 Rudolph Hess, the commander of the largest camp says “ I was ordered to establish extermination facilities at Auschwitz in 6/1941” Rudolph was ordered to make the facilities. These orders are what caused the Holocaust. It's…

It was very dismaying, especially because I personally knew him. After this event, Paul Revere added a drawing to the newspaper dubbed “The Bloody Massacre.” It may be an exaggeration of what really happened, but it shows overall how cruel and ruthless the British were. The nine British soldiers involved in the incident on Kings Street were later brought to trial, and lawyer John Adams surprisingly defended them. I was very confused, but as the law said, everyone had the right to a fair trial.…
