The moral of this story is that if you put all your effort into something then you will succeed over people who don't but succeeding at one task does not mean you deserve to have everything. Simpleton was rewarded the kingdom when he completed all three tasks but that doesn't mean he is fit to run a kingdom. The other brothers were known as clever and intelligent while Simpleton was known as simple minded which is not a great quality to be in charge of a kingdom. This story is saying that people who don't put in effort do not deserve the overall goal but just because the other two brothers didn't take these tasks seriously doesn't mean they weren't more qualified to run the kingdom. Also, Simpleton had magic involved which makes the circumstances unfair for the other brothers. It is not fair that because Simpleton found a trap door with a magical toad that granted all of his fathers quests for him and the other brothers were stuck looking for a way to fulfill the tasks. The three tasks that their father gave them to fulfill does not define each one of the sons. Simpleton had never completed a task before in his life so he should not be able to run a kingdom the one time he does. If Simpleton had not found a trap door with a magic toad granting his wishes then he would have not completed the tasks successfully. The two other brothers should have had an equally fair opportunity like using magic as well but instead they didn't which resulted in them not succeeding. Simpleton did not deserve the kingdom just because he got lucky this one time. Also, the king should not have decided who should run the kingdom by whoever could find the finest carpet for him. The ruler of the kingdom should have more qualifications than being able to find the finest carpet, the most beautiful ring and the most beautiful woman the can jump through a hoop. Although it is stated “Thus the Simpleton received the crown, and he ruled wisely for a long time”, it doesn’t mean that the two others brothers would have not been wiser
