Although Slavery is accredited with being the main and only cause of the Civil war, according to first hand accounts and events the conspiracy of the Southerners unity and the power hungry ideas of the Northerns, were the main cause.
People in the United states believe the feud over slavery was the main cause of the civil war. That belief is partially incorrect because the true reason for the Civil War were the vast differences between the South and the North from their nationalistic ideas to their beliefs in state rights. Slavery was just a piece of this puzzle; many …show more content…
historians believe in a conspiracy composed of the most powerful slaveholders and politicians called “Slave Power”. The North believed all the concurrent events committed by the South such as “attacks on free speech and press, the controversy over the mails, and the compromise of 1850...”(22) were are all actions taken by the South to take away human rights and what the founding fathers fought for. Therefore, the Union sought to take away the main element of the South's existence, which was slavery. “Slave power became a primary object of attack by the abolitionist...The struggle between the slave and Free institutions for existence” (21). The abolitionists(union) saw the need to put an end to slavery which would weaken the South, because of their fear of losing power in the central government. The South needed to protect their interests and fight the ideas imposed by the North such as their decision to take away their slavery system and control America's imperialism which was fueled by the notion of Manifest Destiny. The Civil war also occurred because the South saw the need to defend against free institutions and democratic theory (Kenneth 23). The South was cornered and had no other option but to join together and fight the union for their rights.

Owsley raises the idea that sectionalism was another major component in bringing about the Civil war. In the United States, one side can take control of the other because of sectional balance and the differences between the North and South way of life. The Civil War was not as simple as many common folk think. Many people blame the South for initiating the war and take it to unnecessary levels. During the time before the Civil War was waged, the Southern community felt horrified to be living under Northern control (kenneth 53). The Southern people saw the Union as a group that wanted to desolate the core of their economy by placing a ban on slavery. The attacks implemented to stop slavery, such as the nullification crisis of 1832, made the South defend themselves and caused them to implement defensive strategies. “Southern whites likewise resented the flooding of their mails with incendiary abolitionist literature”(367). The Southerners had to violated the rights of the Constitution such as the 1st Amendment which caused the Northerners to seek reform against those violations. The Union would always see the South as the inferior part of the Union and would deprive them of government opportunities to change the

Every story has two sides, and so does this tale. During the Civil War, the North was seen as the hero in trying to correct human nature; defending the human rights. In reality the North also played a role and helped precipitate the Civil War as much as the Southerners. “The North has been aggrandize...It is no wonder that their villages have grown into magnificent cities”(88). From the conception of the Union, it has sought out to monopolize and build themselves. The Union builded canals, railroads, and different structures while the South was left behind with cotton plants and slavery as its main resource. On the other hand the North believed that everything has given to slavery, even human rights. This led to the abolitionist group seeking to take away slavery from the South because they saw the South as the land of the slaved. The North claims they saw the need for national unity and to bring the U.S back together would ultimately mean clash with the South.
