What Was The Wrongness Of War Hawks In The War Of 1812
In the War of 1812, some Americans thought that the war was a great idea, (A.K.A. the war hawks), but others thought the idea of a war was absolutely terrible, (A.K.A. the doves). In this situation even though the people that wanted the war had there opinions like if the U.S. won they could maybe get land in Canada, the people who were against the war(which was mostly people around the East Coast) were mostly right when they claimed that the war was a terrible idea for things like losing big cities next to the coast. They were right when they said we shouldn’t go to war because of our military problems, financial problems, big cities on the coast would get destroyed, and having to run a country that had only been around for about 50 years that hasn’t even declared …show more content…
This all adds up to the doves being completely correct about the whole war idea being a terrible mistake.

Even though they were partly wrong the war hawks or the people with the whole war idea, had good reasons for the war and some of the others weren’t that bad. The first reason was that the U.S. could stop the British from arming the N.A.s with weapons(i.o.). Well, this statement wasn’t 100% true at the moment if anything the war hawks kind of accused them instead of actually knowing about the N.A. gun control(i.o.). This wasn't 100% true because some merchants in the U.S. were selling these guns to the N.A.s because the merchants had to sell more products because of things like they “Embargo Act” set by president Thomas Jefferson(doc. #5). The second reason for the war hawks wanting a war would be the idea of wanting land in Canada, of course if we won possibly. Nicholas Smyth, part of House of Representative Foreign Affairs Committee, stood up for Canada in a certain way defending why

In the battle over the ratification of the treaty, there were three main factions. The first was the supporters of the treaty in its original form, led by Woodrow Wilson. The second faction was the Reservationists. This group was in favor of the treaty, but only after it had been modified to their interests. The third group opposed the treaty under any circumstance. At this time, they were known as Irreconcilables. Looking at their overall ideals and philosophies, however, they are more aptly called Isolationists. These were the people who had never wanted to enter the war in the first place. Now that the war was over, they wanted America to stay out of European affairs and focus on domestic issues. They also did not like the idea of the League of Nations. They felt that war was bred through contact and involvement, or alliances, with other nations. Therefore, the only way to avoid war was to cut all ties and make no alliances with other countries. This faction often referenced George Washington’s farewell…

One of the leading causes which made the United States went to war with Great Britain in 1812 was the trade restrictions that England had placed on America. At that time, Britain was at war with France, and they depended on a maritime economic blockade to defeat France. However, America was a neutral side, so American merchants tried to get commercial interests by trading with the French. England wanted to block this trading, so they issued twelve “Orders in Council” to impeded American trade with France during 1783-1812. The new laws caused a lot of difficulties for American merchants because it required many of special licenses. They also made the American economy was into a depression. The Era of Good Feelings after the War of 1812 was a time where many rejoiced in the decision that the war had ended. On the other hand many saw it as a burden and felt as if they carried the brunt and financial deficit that it caused. Prior to the war, Britain and the United States decided to sign a treaty and stop the fighting because Russia wanted the British to stop fighting so they could help Russia to fight the French. Within this treaty America didn’t gain or lose anything to the British, establishing a patriotic sense in the Americas.…

Finally, War Hawks had a big influence on America’s decisions to go to war in 1812. War Hawks are used to describe people who are in favor of beginning a war. The U.S congress was being steered by an aggressive faction of young legislators in the House of Representatives who were in favor of starting the war. These people put pressure on President James Madison to declare so their influence was taken into account when deciding if America would go to war. The War Hawks main objective was that they wanted to get Canada from the British. These people tended to be from southern and western states and were prompted by expansionist tendencies since they had the desire to add Canada and Florida to the territories of the…

In 1783, America won the American Revolution; this war gave them freedom from England. Twenty-nine years later, America still had many problems with Great Britain even after winning the revolution. Presidents Washington, Adams, and Jefferson tried very hard to avoid a war with Great Britain. When James Madison became President, he felt that Great Britain was being aggressive. America was not declaring war, but defending itself from a war declared by Great Britain. The main forces that led America to officially declare war on Britain on June 18, 1812, were Britain’s kidnapping or impressments of American sailors, Britain’s efforts to restrict the United States’ sea trade or maritime rights, and unofficially, the American wish to get more land in the west and from Canada.…

The War of 1812 was a war that lasted for two years that helped the United States to firmly and officially establish its independence. After finishing with the concern of France, England turned its attention over to the United States. At first, the United States did not want to resort to war and fighting (Doc. B) but rather sort out their issues economically--because England had seized all ships that did not stop in the British port before heading to their other European destinations, Congress passed the Embargo Act and then the Non-Intercourse Act, allowing trade with all nations except France and England. Then, England refused to allow this trade to occur, so America had to resort to war. The Northeastern Federalists were not in favor of war, but the Republicans ultimately won the majority vote in Congress to declare war--the War of 1812 (Doc. G). During this war, America was very concerned with gaining control over land in this country as well as in Canada, but at the same time Americans needed to defend themselves against their strong British enemies. Either way, America had to abandon its position of neutrality (Doc. C).…

The bloody Vietnam War of the 1950’s was fought by the brave American troops with the help of the Canadian citizens. Though, sources claim that Canada had a limited amount of contribution in the war, facts state otherwise. The Vietnam War took place during the Cold War era where a military conflict had occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from November 1 1955 to April 30 1975. Canada became officially involved in the Vietnam conflict in 1954, as part of the International Commission for Supervision and Control in Vietnam. However, Canada did not post troops to Vietnam until 1973, in which Canadian troops remained under the United Nations banner to enforce the Paris Peace Accords. The War had persisted for more than nineteen years, five months, four weeks and one day. During the Cold War era, Canada remained associated with the main stream western powers. Many Canadians who truly wanted to fight in the War had served along the U.S Military. Canadians serving with the United States had occurred as far back as the Civil War. In addition, Canada was part of many organizations such as “N.A.T.O” (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) which guaranteed Canada would not partake in the Vietnam War. Even though people around the world contemplate that Canada had no contribution in the Vietnam War, various facts state that Canadians did have excessive amount of involvement towards the Vietnam War that was never taken into consideration. Throughout this essay, the reader will be able to grasp a general understanding of the ways in which the Canadians had part in The Vietnam War, regardless of what bias sources claim. To start with, Canada sent more than thirty thousand troops into the Vietnam War with the Americans – these troops volunteered and died there. Canadians had also sent plenty amounts of supplies…

Although the American’s had been “independent” from the British since the end of the Revolutionary War, the British continued to harass and mettle in American affairs. While Madison was seeking reelection the War Hawks in Congress had declared war on Britain in June 18. On paper the rag-tag American was seen as incapable of defeating the superior British forces for a second time. However this war would have an unexpected results as neither side would be the “victory”. Even the United States wasn’t able to gain any new territory to their growing collection and the borders were returned to the way they had been (status quo antebellum), Americans were able to declare victory in the War of 1812 because they were able to enter a period of economic independence from the world (Europe) which carried on to the Era of Good Feeling as well as hold its own against what was concerned the strongest fighting force in the world at the time.…
