In terms of education, school would probably still be segregated under the “separate but equal” law, which clearly when it was not really equal[c1] .
When African Americans could not attend school, white people used to claim that education was a threat to society because people of color were not smart enough to get an education. If civil rights never happened, today we …show more content…
would not have a diverse background and student population. Today we have students in classrooms from all over the world; we have opportunities to learn from them and their different point of view[c2] .
When it comes to housing, white populations would live in rich communities while African Americans and other minorities would live in poor places with bad facilities.
They would probably not have as much access to clean water or healthy food because African Americans would not be able to afford it. People of color would be living in an environment with a lot of violence and with a lot of dreams[c3] . Their living conditions would be very bad when whites would have all the luxury they could possibly possess[c4] .
African Americans would not have the same opportunity to get a decent job like they do today. White populations would be in charge and make African Americans get low paying jobs where they can only survive with the little amount of money they receive. Women’s wages would be one half or a third of men’s wages, like it used to be. There would be significant wage gaps[c5] .

Today, people immigrate to the United States to live the American dream. If segregation were still going on, those immigrants would never want to come here for a better life because it would not exist. Now, we have the voice and the right to stand up for
ourselves.
If it were not for all the leaders, like Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought for equal rights, today racism would still be a big issue in African Americans lives. If it was not for the Civil Rights Movement, millions of African Americans and other races would not have the opportunity to go to college and major in any career they want. I would probably not even be writing this essay because life would be different for me. I would have never gotten this opportunity to get a better life.
