What Would You Do Analysis
"W.W.Y.D"

Society is quick to judge and people are quick to stereotype other people. In the show "What Would You Do" three people were trying to steal a bike. The first one was a white male and most of the people just walked by or asked "Is that your bike," and his reply was "No," then the people just kept walking by and didn't even try to stop him. There was roughly 100 people an hour that just walked by until an old couple walked up and tried to stop him. Next, was a black male and the first person to walk by tries to stop him right off the bat, and the person was talking loud so that they could have safety in numbers. Mostly everyone tried to stop the black male. Lastly, there was a white female and most people just walked by or just

In the television show 'What Would You Do" an actor pretended to be a mom and put her “kids” on a leash to see how people would react. First, the mom had two kids and was treating them like dogs, then she tied them up on a pole outside and went into a shop. People were just staring and someone even took a video. There was also a video on youtube about a mother dragging her kid through a store by a leash. No person should drag their kid by a leash through a store where people are constantly walking. When the director asked a man why he didn't stop it the man simply replied with "Not my place, not my business," so he is saying that since it isn't his children or he doesn't know the mom or children that he can't do anything about it. Some kids with behavior disorders or just any disorders might have to be on leashes when they are little so they don't act out and hurt themselves by running away or doing other things. In the show the mother handed a man the leash with the little girl on it and he just stood there and held it for her. He didn't say anything about it. Throughout the show only a handful of people intervened to help the child. That is just roughly five people that was trying to help the child. Every parent in the world has a different way to teach their kids something, but some parents are pushing it way too …show more content…
In "What Would You Do" there was an episode about homelessness and in the beginning it showed people hurting actual homeless people by hitting them with bats and steel bars, catching them on fire, and urinating on them. Later on an actor came out pretending to be a homeless man and sat on the sidewalk. Then three actors who are playing teenagers came out and started to hit him with trash bag and calling him names. Some people just stared, but then people started to get involved and yell at the boys to go away but nothing was happening they just kept doing what they were doing and finally someone came out and started to nudge the boys away from the homeless man and someone helped get him to safety. Three to four people helped the homeless man. One man who helped the homeless man said "I don't assume that someone else is going to step in," but he didn't help until someone asked him to. Now, they gave the teen actors a fake bat. People started to act faster when they brought in the bat. They switched roles and now there is a homeless women. The people started to step in faster and more violently and almost every person is cussing. One woman that stepped in said “ You don’t care about me, you don’t care about people,”. Another woman said to the producers that “We’re empowered by that sense of community,”. In the end the homeless woman got more sympathy than the homeless man. Most people think

This video affects me more with emotional things than anything I think. As I started to watch the video I was trying to figure out what the parents were thinking by placing those children in those situations. This issue is a very important issue and I don’t think that it gets near the attention that it deserves. There is so much attention placed on so many things in this world but yet the situation of children and their parents who are living on the street get swept under the rug. The laws and legal systems don’t seem to do anything about but want to complain about the crimes and how wild these teenagers end up being. The legal systems don’t seem to realize how living homeless and moving place to place actually affects the parents and the children. It is a parents right to raise their children how they want but at the same time there should be limitations on these thing to ensure children basic needs are met to a certain extent. However the parents have a choice to live like that but the children they bring into this world don’t have a choice and they suffer the consequences of being homeless just because they were born and their parent made a choice to live like this because they don’t want to pay rent or taxes and this is totally unacceptable. In the minds of the parents of these children they are wanting to raise their children a certain way and that is understandable but at the same time the parents do not realize the psychological problems that it can have on the children. The parents of these children were being careless as early as when they got pregnant with the children. By living a life like this there is no prenatal care to make sure mom and baby are healthy. By living homeless the parents are exposing the unborn baby along with the children that have already been born to so many diseases among other things not to mention once a baby is born there are no doctor visits for vaccines or to check to see if the baby is on…

I am 50/50 with his comments and his essay he said he’s very critical of blind faith which makes sense most people choose not to believe an a god because they think how can someone create something an three days ? How can someone just say let there be this and that an it happens? How can someone let so much evil happen on a place we call earth or better yet call home? The reason why I’m 50/50 is because I sometimes question it too but I choose to believe an I grew up around holy people an there nothing wrong with believing and god but to most people it just a big myth.…

In a society as culturally diverse as the one we live in, you would think that people would learn to be more accepting of others. Nevertheless, there are still those who simply cannot. In his essay Black Men and Public Space, Brent Staples describes something that most young black men experience on more than one occasion in their lives. Being perceived as a criminal simply based on his "unwieldy inheritance", the color of their skin.…

We are a society that is scared to take risks in fear of being rejected. I even found myself falling for the stereotypes before the movie got started. In the film, everyone had similar physical attributes. But contrary to the assumptions and stereotypes that the police officers had, it wasn’t any of the individuals with darker skin that was causing the problems. Until the commotion on the train, it seemed that everyone was happy and accepting of on another. Everyone, light skin, dark skin, old, and young were all coexisting until the end of the ride when the fight broke out. The African American individuals didn’t stand a chance against the police officers. We are taught as a society that we obey law enforcement, and that is exactly what all the men were doing. The officers in the film had a tainted view of the reality of how many African American’s actually commit crimes. 28% of all arrests are African American, this just happens more often in bigger cities so the officers could have got the perspective that it was without a doubt Oscar and his friends that committed the crime (Morris, 2014). Black to white violent crimes are also treated more harshly and generally serve longer sentences than black to black violent crimes (Morris, 2014). These examples are also a result of symbolic interaction. The individuals formed how they would interpret society. They formed a…

Leashes can be used for discipline, to teach kids not to run off, and to make sure that the kids stay close to their guardian. Parents might use a leash if their kid likes to run off or if the child has a disability. Parents who use leashes on their children might be called ‘lazy parents’. That might be true, but the parent/guardian might have a lot on their hands. They might have a bunch of kids, which in that situation, leashes would be useful. If one child runs off, the parent can run and go get that child. But if more than one child runs off, if there is only parent there, the parent wouldn’t be able to catch up. It is a safety issue for the children. An experiment was done where a mother had her kids on leashes in public and treated them like dogs, even tieing the children to a pole when she was going into the store. The mother and her children were all actors. When it was the mother with one child, there were just a few comments. One person intervened. The person was a mother and a social worker. When the leash was tied to the pole during the first experiment, people took pictures, but didn’t say anything about. When one of the people who took the pictures was asked about it, he said,”It’s not my place, It’s not my business.” The next experiment that was done with the leashes was a nanny and a pack of kids. The nanny was treating the kids like dogs on leashes. During this experiment a teenager gets involved, telling the actor that it is wrong. People don’t seem to like the leashes when they are abused. The next run with the leashes was with a mother that had kids on leashes, but was holding her dog. When she went into the store she tied up her kids, but carried her dog in with her. People got really mad during that experiment. Multiple people intervened, one woman saying,”I would never tell a mother how to be a mother, but this is absolutely wrong!” This shows that people…

    Black Men Stereotypes

    • 1625 Words

Many black male actors play the role of a ‘thug’ or another type of criminal in reality TV or movies. The amount of black men playing these roles creates the stereotype that black men are dangerous and more likely to participate in illegal activities. Nadra Nittle, a Race Relations Expert, says that “racial profiling make(s) black men targets of the authorities” (Nittle). Saying this, the young black men’s lives are now in jeopardy. Whenever a person of another race sees a person of color on the streets that person will most likely feel threatened by them, which does not necessarily have to be true. If everyday people believe this, authorities will too. This means if they see someone of color on the streets, even unarmed, they will not hesitate to question. In the 1998 movie Belly, two black guys ‘Sincere’ and ‘Buns’ live off their lifestyle of drug dealing and robbery. Younger teenagers or even adults watching this movie can be easily persuaded to think every black male lives a life of drugs and theft, which can be harmful for their perception of other people. Another race affected by stereotypes are Asians, and the fact that most people associate Asians with being smart. Hearing this, it sounds like a good stereotype, right? It is not the stereotype name, it is the way it alters the mind of other people. Jin Wong says, “..when an Asian person accomplishes…

If your friend is at the verge of harming themselves,or wants to harm others. Would you sacrifice your friendship to save their life and many others, or will you not tell and lose them all together. What would you do, would you tell or not to tell? The author of this text is Mary Kate Frank and she has many reasons and explanations to support why you should tell. Although there are some readers of ´´To Tell or Not To Tell´´ that have argued that you will be called a tattletale if you tell an adult that something bad is going to happen, closer examination shows that if you don't tell an adult or call 911, someone could get hurt.…

Being different is something that people in society seem to not understand and I believe it scares them. Society has standards and expects something out of all of us, and when someone or something is different, society tries to push it out. Racism has been something that goes way back, and has caused laws to be made. Unfortunately racism still continues today, even with the laws that were made. My question in particular is why does the color of someone’s skin looked upon so negatively by our society? Even if race is looked upon by our society as negative as it is, people don’t understand that we are all the same and nothing has ever been different but our skin color.…

I will be exploring a time when I felt like “other”, in this situation I was made to feel invisible, excluded and too visible all at the same time. In this situation I mainly felt excluded but nonetheless I felt all of the above. My husband is Nigerian and I am African American, he attends a Nigerian church and all of the members are Nigerian. Every time I go to church with him I feel as if I am too visible because I am the only non-Nigerian person there, yes we are all black but I know nothing about their culture and I do not speak their language. They often sing Nigerian praise songs and do traditional dances and when this is occurring I often feel excluded and invisible because it seem…

Blacks are seen as criminals, violent people, lazy, unintelligent, and have aggressive and destructive behavior. Whites are seen as victims of crimes and police officers. Latinos/Hispanics are seen as lazy, violent, and illegal immigrants. Muslims/Arabs are viewed as dangerous terrorists. When the media uses these stereotypes, people start to believe this is true. Studies have shown that people that are more racist tend to view racial and ethnic people in a more negative way. People that tend to be less racist view people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds in a more positive way. Many forms of entertainment, such as movies and TV shows, play into the stereotypes. In the movie Dumbo, the crows speak and act in a way that discriminates African Americans (Bozdech). In fact, the leader was named Jim Crow. Another movie that played with stereotypes was The Goonies. In The Goonies, Data was given a stereotypical Asian accent and was a gadget freak (Bozdech). In the TV show COPS, all of the criminals in the show were either black or Hispanic. The Looney Tune also had a lot of racial and ethnic stereotypes. In the Looney Tunes, African and Native Americans were portrayed as savages, Jews had a hooked nose, Mexicans were lazy, and all Germans were Nazis…
