During Drama lessons I have learnt a lot of things that I did not know about. For example, I did not know about Freeze Frames, Soundscapes and Physical Theatre. Also we did storytelling about the traditional story ‘The Three Little Pigs ‘ and another story called ‘How Abu Hassan Broke Wind ‘.
Freeze Frames means that you freeze a position as a character for the audience to understand and figure out what is going on in the scene. An example of this is, when someone was doing a group performance and one person was to freeze for a few seconds whilst the others still perform, it shows the audience that the character is still in the scene but isn’t doing anything.
Soundscapes is one of the non-realistic conventions in drama. Say, for example, in real life you wouldn't hear voices chanting through a room (this could be a type of soundscaping), this is what makes it non-realistic. It can be used to add to mood, tension and other elements of drama. There are many different types of soundscapes because there are many different sounds. Basically, soundscapes are sounds you can make using your body, so if I’m studying a play and there is the noise of a train that is projected, yet in the play there is only a girl pretending to be on a train. The noise of the train was a soundscape.
Physical Theatre stems comes from many different areas. It essentially means theatre that focuses on telling a story through the body .This does not mean that it doesn’t use other elements (voice/staging, costume etc.).
In drama I had improved in storytelling, acting and it boosted my confidence up a bit more. So that’s what I learnt in drama! By Khadija Shah 7V
