What I Want in My Life
What do you want in life? Many people struggle with this question. Maybe you do too? Maybe some of you have already figured it all out? Life can get so busy that we don't have time to really think about what we want in life. And when we do find what we want, it can seem impossible to achieve it. Many people have different ambitions in life. So, the word ambition would have different definitions, depending on whom you ask. To me, ambition is a burning desire to achieve your goals or to succeed. Ambition is related to dedication, motivation and time. So don't be afraid to dream big.

Since this is my last year in school, I have been asked frequently on what I want to do later in life. To be honest, I'm not quite sure what I want to be in the future. It used to be so easy when I was just a kid. You could be anything you want. You could be a dancer, a singer and even an actress. Now, you have to be realistic. So, which path should I choose? Should I choose to make something incredible with my life or just sit back and enjoy and let nature takes its own course?

I've been thinking about it a lot and I've decided to make a difference in this world. I've decided to make other people's lives better. I've decided to make something out of myself. That is when I decided to be a doctor. Sure, it's a very typical career but what all of you don't know is being a doctor is very hard and challenging. I must admit the life of a doctor is not at all glamorous, instead it is very hectic and sometimes you don't even have time to sleep! However, that fact does not make me want to throw in the towel. I want to be a doctor because I want to make a significant impact on someone's life. In my opinion, what more can you do with your life than saving others everyday? Realizing this made it very clear that I want to be a doctor. Even though I'm going to have to work extremely hard and overcome many obstacles to get there, I know it will be worth it in the end.

Acetaminophen is a common analgesic used to treat mild pain. We synthesized acetaminophen by reacting p-aminophenol and acetic anhydride. The amine group on the p-aminophenol reacted with the center oxygen atom on the acetic anhydride to form an amide. We reacted 0.210g of p-aminophenol with 0.240ml of acetic anhydride in the presence of heat, and then cooled the solution in an ice bath until crystals formed. The solid acetaminophen was filtered from the solution and then subjected to a recrystallization using a 50:50 water-ethanol solvent. 0.1484g of crude acetaminophen was measured and after purification 0.0669g of pure acetaminophen was collected. A percent yield of 23% was calculated from our theoretical and actual yield. The melting point…

Everyone is asked one question, at a very young age. That question is: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” There isn’t a time I can remember when an adult didn’t ask me this question. When I was six, I would respond with the usual movie star, fashion designer, or veterinarian. My answer would be said confidently, as at this age I walked through life as if it were no big deal. My answer occasionally changed to fit with my many childhood phases, but my view on the question stayed the same. When I was a child, I replied to this inquiry the same way everyone else did; I answered with an occupation. It took me years to discover my new approach to this question. My new response did not include my dream job, but how I saw myself in the future.…

Unfortunately, in today’s society, this timeless and straight forward question has been morphed into another creature. That being, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” We are constantly asked this question from the very minute that we learn to make coherent sentences. As a toddler, one only knows about a dozen occupations, half of which being princess, power ranger, or superhero most of which are not real options. Later, society pushes the “respectable” occupations into our minds such as doctors, lawyers and judges. Society does such a great job at doing this, that some people do not even realize that these occupations are not their Joie de Vivre until they are already working in these fields. For the longest time, I was also a casualty to this façade, wanting to be a doctor most of my life. Though, to find out how I got to where I am, we have to start at the beginning.…

I recall being asked by my relatives: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and instead of an answer I would give them a blank stare. I had no idea how to respond. Not because there was nothing I found appealing, but because I felt passionate about too many things. I loved music, math, design, helping others, working with kids, analyzing situations and solving problems. There were to many career paths that I liked, but it always seemed to me that in order to follow one I would have to give up the rest.…

The road to success has always been paved with many obstacles. When I first decided on what I would plan on being in the future, I was a little girl (about four years old). Many people in my family were a part of the medical field, mainly nurses. As I continued to get older, I received more practice and more knowledge about the medical field and I would go back and forth on whether I would become a nurse or a doctor, and I still face that conflict today. However, I am positive that I will stick to the medical field. I have discovered other career paths, and I can never see myself loving them as much as I love the medical field. The way medicine works amazed me and I always found it interesting to help people. When I started learning more about the medical field, I learned how difficult it would be to get where I needed to go. Each day, I try as hard as I can to get closer to my goal of becoming a doctor.…
