The School counselor collaborates with school and community members to plan, design, implement, evaluate, and enhance the school and district-wide comprehensive guidance and counseling program to advance the academic, personal/social, and career development of all students.
Program implementation requires counselors, teachers, administrators, and the community to work together. As a collaborative group we are challenged with creating guidance plans, lessons and policies that work along the lines of offering students opportunities to create and perform at high intellectual levels. Richard Lavoie. In this article it highlights the fact that we must lend as much attention to all students. In doing so, we praise students efforts every chance we get. A way to look at it is that students begin the day with a certain number of chips, chips can be earned throughout the day, but as they do something incorrect chips are taken away. This process is ok for an individual who has a high self-esteem but the idea is to equate learning disabled children into this equation and they are at a lost before they start the day, and it is hard for them to catchup. All students must be treated with the same measures of respect, and it is up to the counselor and the attending administration to determine the best process to move students in the right direction by pouring into them often. As advocates for children we must ensure that we equip them with the essentials require to succeed. This success extends itself beyond education, some will further their education, others will seek jobs and create relationships that are necessary for survival. We have to meet children where they are so that negative experiences do not stack up against them. Our job is to ensure that learning experiences lead to productive and influential life
