Who Is Bilbo Baggins A Hero
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Everyone wants to be that one person who saves the day, but most do not have the guts to do anything heroic. Some individuals might get pushed into an adventure, and maybe that ordinary individual might find out who they were really meant to be. Just like a little ordinary hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, who did extraordinary things, became a true hero. In “The Hobbit”, Bilbo Baggins goes from a hobbit to a hero by saving his friends from giant spiders, from castle dungeons, and from a terrifying dragon. Bilbo Baggins is a regular, quiet hobbit that a person would not give a second glance to, who also saves his future friends from a dangerous foe. Gandalf, a great and powerful wizard, asked Bilbo to go on a quest as their burglar. Right in the middle of the quest, Gandalf leaves the hobbit and the thirteen dwarves and expects them to finish the quest they started. The rest of them walked down a dark and mysterious trail that they were supposed to stay on no matter what. They accidentally strayed from the trail and ran into multiple giant spiders. All of the dwarves get caught, but not Bilbo. He slips on his magical ring of invisibility he found in a cave and lured the spiders away. “Bilbo …show more content…
When they escaped from the spiders, they stumbled upon a group of Wood-elves. In the meantime, Bilbo slipped on the ring of invisibility. Sadly, they were captured except for Bilbo and put in the dungeon of the Wood-elves’ castle. Bilbo spent weeks planning an escape route and finally found one. Many Wood-elves like to drink a lot of wine, and as a result, they have a lot of empty barrels. Mr.Baggins stole one of the guard’s keys and freed all of his friends. He quietly put them in the empty barrels, then they released the barrels into the river and floated to

While the smell of wet earth filled their noses, kili and fili (2 of the dwarfs) saw a cave where the they could rest. As they entered, they could taste fear, and had a feeling about something nearby. They slept, and they woke up to find their pony's tail sliding into a crack. Bilbo was sent by the dwarves to investigate a strange fire in the forest, quietly. When he reached the fire, he saw it was three very large persons sitting around a very large fire of beech-logs, they were trolls. At this point Bilbo had the chance to have gone back quietly and warned his friends about the trolls but he felt the need to do a bit of good quick burgling to impress the dwarves. “He wished himself a hundred miles away-yet somehow he could not go straight back to Thorin and Company emptyhanded.” But not all ended well for poor Mr. Baggins’ as it took Gandalf to save Bilbo and the dwarves from the…

In Chapter 9, Bilbo’s cleverness is shown. Bilbo, yet again, saves the dwarves from trouble. In a short amount of time, Bilbo came up with a plan to rescue his friends from the woodelves. Without his cleverness, he wouldn’t have saved his friends and the story would be different because they wouldn’t have gone to Lake Town. You can see this when the author says, “When he heard this Bilbo was all in a flutter, for he saw that luck was with him and he had a chance at once to try his desperate plan.” And then later says, “They had escaped the dungeons, and were through the wood.” These quotes show how Bilbo was desperate to try out his plan and at the end, it turned out to be really successful. Bilbo could not have thought of this plan without his cleverness, if it weren’t for that, he would’ve never saved the dwarves.…

A hero is someone who is admired for their brave actions, the courage they show, and is a leader. In J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit, it shows a young hobbit who discovers the ups and downs to an adventure. From goblins, to elves, to spiders, to many other creatures. Bilbo Baggins went through a lot. Nearly getting killed for one thing; the arkenstone. He defiantly shows that a hero can be small and weak, and that anything can be achieved. It is clear that Bilbo Baggins is a hero at the end of the novel. This is because he saves the company from many disasters, he confronts the great dragon Smaug, and is always there for the company.…

A hero is someone or something who helps others with an honorable purpose, or a person who possesses traits that others could see as the traits of a role model. In my mind, Frodo Baggins holds these heroic characteristics and, in the end, made choices to assist the well-being of his companions. Frodo’s efforts display that he is concerned for the future of all living things and does not act simply based on his own wants. For instance, when Gandalf questions Frodo of the Ring’s prospect, Frodo chooses to eliminate it. Though he would be destroyed, as well as others, it proves later that he did not do it to benefit only himself. Furthermore, in a meeting discussing the Ring’s future, Frodo volunteers to bring it to the evil land of Mordor. Any…

Throughout The Hobbit, the dwarves and Gandalf reference to Bilbo as the “burglar” of the group. Although Gandalf recruited Bilbo to join the travelers, the dwarves skepticize the hobbit’s ability by his appearance and demeanor. However, Gandalf tells the doubting dwarves, “If I say he is a Burglar, a Burglar he is, or will be when the time comes. There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself. ” As this text excerpt shows, Gandalf specifically chose Bilbo for the burglar role because he knew that Bilbo retained the strength inside of him to become a leader. Early in the journey, Gandalf disappeared, leaving the dwarves and Bilbo with no clue as to where the wizard dissipated. After the dwarves and…
