While thinking of what saint I should do in the beginning of the new year, St. Francis came to mind many times for many different reasons. But for my conformation name I wanted to pick a female saint. While researching St. Francis, I came across St. Clare and her story. I like how Clare really cared about Francis and believed in him when many others did not. I also like the story of how she became the patron saint of television which is; when Clare was ill and she could not attend mass, she had visions of the masses and was able to hear and see it on the wall in her room. Throughout the long standing history of the Catholic Church, dynamic and influential positions have been predominately held by men. From the Church’s Worldwide Leader, the Pope, down through the ranks of Cardinal, Archbishop, Bishop, Priest, and Deacon; men hold these responsibilities almost exclusively. However, women have, throughout the years, played a vastly significant role in shaping the Catholic Church’s history, its ministry, and its overall world impact. Saint Therese of Lisieux and Mother Theresa approached their ministries at opposite ends of the spectrum. One performing very small and self-sacrificial acts, while the other actively going out into the worst parts of the world to serve the less fortunate.…

Jeanne was born in the Barrois region of eastern France in the town of Domremy. She was born on January 6 of 1411 to the parents of Jacques Darc and Isabelle Romee. Her family was in the French peasant class, but highly religious. She was devoted to her catholic religion, and was often looked down upon by other children. Jeanne was very kind to the poor, she would give money, and even give up her bed to guest. One remarkable feature about Jeanne was that she shared common characteristics with her contemporary female visionaries, who were held at a high honor. These include: extreme piety, claims of direct communication with the saints and a reliance on individual experience, as opposed to that found through the institutions of the church of the presence of God (“St. Joan of Arc”).…

Saying that modernism is assaulting creative expression is an overstatement, however, the title explains how modernism is attacking the manner that individuals perceive creative expression, as well as how individuals are straying away from the Romantic and traditional art. The title and reasoning are very fitting due to the fact that art had become formulaic, therefore, artists and creators at the time revamped art and began to instill new forms of art, such as abstraction, cubism, futurism, and many more from other artistic expressions. Furthermore,…
