How much do external circumstances really affect the overall outcome of each and every human life? It comes down to a mixture of genetics and the events that occur to shape how people live. Despite the importance of genetics, throughout history, it has been proven that the environment has a greater impact on who a child becomes. There are genetic factors that may result in a bias, such as mental health and disabilities, as well as issues that can occur while developing as a child, but for the most part, these can be minimized with positive influence and encouragement. Parent’s decisions shape how their children may react to different situations.…
"The Patriot" is an excellent movie. It may very well be one of the most exciting…
Through reading about the trait theories of personality I got a chance to look into myself to see what my families generations passed down to me. These are some of the things that make me who I am as an individual and inspire my morals and beliefs. Now, I know who I am and what made me to come be the person I am today.…
The nature vs. nurture debate is one of the longest in the field of psychology. It is concerned with the importance of individual’s inborn qualities, their nature, versus their personal experience or their “nurture”(Ceci & Williams, 2000). Many psychologists disagree as to which plays a more important role on an individual. Psychologist Donald Hebb is said to have answered the question of which contributed more to the personality of a person with the response, “which contributes more to the area of a rectangle, its length or its width? (Ceci & Williams, 2000)”…
When i as a kid i knew i was different from everyone. I had friends but never seen to fit in their groups. Even when there moments where I fit in most of the time I was abandon to the side. Things for me in school were more difficult than the rest. I don’t know when my parents told me that i was dyslexic, but from that time i had extra help and went into private tutors or anything to bring my grades up. Nothing that people tried would work or work enough. As a child I was ignorant about my problems and as a little kid I only saw the positive, living worry free. That ilusion broke when I move from Spain to America. I realized that I was alone. Even though my childhood had its ups and down I did not know any better, but soon I would realized to how to use my flaws to my advantage. My life experiences have taught me many things that I can use to help people.…
The world around me is huge and intricate, and with each experience I become more and more aware of just how complex it is. The more I see and learn, the more I begin to ask questions. One experience in particular led me to ask a multitude of questions about not only who I am, but who others are and how our beliefs and choices shape us into who we become.…
When the genogram assignment was given, I was resentful to do it because I already had a vague idea of my family’s background. I understood the reason behind the assignment, but I strongly dislike talking about my family, especially to people I am not particularly close to. Although I did not learn any additional valuable information about my family, being able to organize what I was aware of aided me in my reflection. I recognize now that my closest relationship is to my mom, yet I do not feel comfortable going to her or anyone for any problems. That stems back to how I was raised, by multiple babysitters since my parents were focused on paying the bills. I wouldn’t say that I became more independent, but instead, closed off from others; this also relates to my siblings. I am a middle child of six, and up until high school I was constantly put down and bullied by my brothers. This tremendously affected my self-esteem and my relationships with them and others throughout my life. To this day, I feel restricted in what I do and say, and it is the one of the reasons behind why I began living in the world of literature. My mom was always the one to take me to the library and attempted to bring me out of my own space when she could. Now I have the means…
According to the assessment, my highest score of 34 was in the category Artistic, next was Social with 32 and my last 2 categories tied at 11 in the categories Investment, and Enterprise(National Center for O*NET Development). In tying this into my Job zone assessment, my results show that I am willing to add more education in order to have a specific career. By choosing to add more to my education, I found my top career choices to be a Mental Health counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Counseling Psychologist(National Center for O*NET Development). This does not surprise me considering I have been pursuing a career in mental health. It is a good exercise to keep your plan in focus. This is important because as many career-counseling theorists suggest, a career path can often change as life changes (Niles and Bowlsbey, 2013).…
From the moment we are born we are like empty cups. We have no personality, we have no idea in life. We have no identity. It is often the people around us and didactics that make us who we are. Early in life we are shaped by our parents, the greatest makers of our identity. Our mothers and fathers affect us more than any other person. The way we communicate and see life may all or partly be influenced by them.…
This paper is a work of self-examination to find out what influenced my development from birth to this my 56th year. I will delve into my past and try to honestly and without judgment describe what events and actions led me to become the person I am today. I will look at the way in which the culture and family I grew up in build the frame-work of the person I have evolved into.…
My interest in psychology took off at a rapid pace. I wanted to find out everything I possibly could about the human mind. I enrolled in International Baccalaureate (IB) Psychology in high school, and there was no class that could possibly compare to it. The lectures were so fascinating, learning about why people act the way they do was more than a guilty pleasure for me. The nature versus nurture debate was a very prominent topic throughout this course, with every disorder would follow the speculation of what factor had caused it. This debate was particularly present in many psychological disorders, mainly because not a lot of research had been conducted on this matter. The Journal of…
Please type a brief personal history leading to your decision to become a teacher, as well as your thoughts on how students learn best and how you would address the needs of diverse learners (e.g., English language learners, students with disabilities) in urban settings. Is who we are the result of our genes (nature) or is it the result of our upbringing (nurture)?…
After coming to these conclusions, I decided to become more social; experiencing new things so I could have a opinion, rather than stagnate in ignorance. I've learned a lot in regards to life, but most importantly I learned a lot about myself. I can…
When I was a little kid, I had so many questions about life. My parents had a hard time raising me because of my questions about everything. I wondered in what kind of world people steal, kill, hurt and betray each other. However, not many of my questions were answered. Even though my parents knew the answers, they kept them away from me as if they wanted me to find out for myself. On my way trying to find the answers, I also knew what kind of person my dad is.…
