Why All Children Should Be Considered Winners
Should all Children be Considered Winners?

Think of what the world would be like if everyone was given a trophy for just participating in a sport. That wouldn’t be much fun now, would it? Children all over the world are being rewarded for things they didn’t learn and, this is not right. Children should not be awarded for just participating, children should be awarded for winning 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. This should happen because if everyone is placed on a unilateral performance scale, then students may never be motivated to challenge themselves. And finally because of all the lessons students will learn from losing. My first reason why kids should not be considered winners just for participation is because if everyone is placed on a unilateral performance scale, then students may never be motivated to challenge themselves. According to Letise Dennis, “An otherwise average student, in terms of GPA, may be complacent and go through their academic career completely happy with their current grades. However, introduce the chance to win a scholarship to college or the opportunity to speak at graduation, and students have proven over time that this is a driving force to work harder to boost their GPA and class

I know this because according to Letise Dennis, “It is okay if they are upset because they lose. What this will do is serve to teach that they don’t need to be afraid of losing—that at some point everyone goes through a loss. It’s what happens after the loss that matters. Students learn to take pride in knowing they did the best they could, challenge themselves to work harder next time, and even eventually learn to put themselves aside and congratulate the winner.” This very well states that by playing a sport kids can learn from their mistakes. Which is apart of life so it's good for kids to start learning and get

Not to mention they have to do nothing, Kids don’t try as hard at sports. For kids to get a trophy now-a-days they only have to show up to the practices and games. They don’t have to do anything except participate in the games. Also in addition to kids doing nothing, It’s unfair for those kids that actually want to try and get better instead of getting a trophy. For some teams when kids don’t try the coaches have permission to say they can’t…

Awards will be given throughout life and if students are trained young that they always “win,” they will be set up for disappointment. In Corey Turner’s evaluation on this subject, a statement was made that explained, “Her daughter rarely showed up for her soccer team. She had a terrible attitude. At the end she got a giant trophy and would have been devastated had she not.” This kind of attitude will have an extremely harmful effect on most children if they are raised in that atmosphere.…

Do you do things for the fun of it or for a prize? Many kids think they should get a trophy. Parents think otherwise they think getting a trophy is sending the wrong message. Trophies aren’t for everyone and everything, because trophies lose their meaning if everyone gets one, also trophies aren’t effective ways for coaches to bribe the team to do better, and you should do things for fun not for a prize.…

CPicture this, you win a championship and for one second you feel so happy, you have worked so hard and you finally reached your goal. Then you look to your left and realize the kid that only came to 2 practices the whole year got the same exact trophy as you. The happy feeling you felt turned into anger and frustration. Kids should not receive participation trophies because getting a participation trophies does not teach kids the concept of losing, it is not fair to everyone on the team, and the cost of them could be going to better use.…

First of all, playing sports is one of my favorite things to do. They teach me discipline and I must do and Not do what coach says. Sports also teach me good sportsmanship. I learn to love the game by playing my opponent/friends and showing how to take a win or loss. Last year playing basketball we didn’t lose but one game, I was devastated. I like to think I took the Loss ok but I just blamed it all on myself. I got to show my winning spirts in a ton of games that season, and I think I showed my happiness well. Our team didn’t brag or show off we simply just played our game, and the results turned out as they may.…

It has been stated, “We need to distinguish between an award and a reward” (Pricemen). Earning a first place trophy feels better knowing that all the hard work they put into getting there was worth it. Then not working at all and getting a trophy they didn’t work for. Participation trophies can be good if they are used properly; “It is odd and sad in the age of social media, that too many people criticize participation trophies” (Pricemen). Participation trophies can motivate children to work harder to succeed the next time the next time they compete. Yet, the majority of children that get a participation trophies choose to give up and shy away from the sport they are playing.…

The first reason why all kids shouldn’t get a trophy is because things in life don’t come easy like that. First of all, do kids get an A in class just by showing up? Let’s just say life is like that. Kids all over the world went to practice and never did anything, they sat on a bench, and still got a trophy. That’s not okay. They went to work didn’t do anything…

One reason why kids should not get trophies is because it does not prepare them for the future. For example, in the article “Should Everyone Get a Trophy?” by Lauren Tarshis, she states, ”In life, most people are not rewarded for simply doing what’s required.” Adults in today’s world do not get a raise for simply going to work. This is the same concept with kids today. They should not get a trophy for…

The first reason why not all kids should be given an award for participating in an activity is because they will view it as an entitlement. If kids know that they are going to be given an award no matter what or how they do in the season, then they won't have a motivation for working their hardest and trying to be their best. In some cases, a kids doesn't care to even take part in the activity, it is rather their parent pushing them to do…

Though in my experience when i was given a trophy for participating in softball that made me think that i was good and i practiced and practiced so i was good and i felt good. Yet as the years proges the kids are rewarded for everything from behavior to actions. For example at a summer camp in Maryland gives awards every day-this “day” is just one hour long. The American Youth Soccer Organization gives out roughly 3500 trophies and awards every season. That right there tells you that kids are given and rewarded for things such as participating and to think that, that's only in two cases. There are other cases where children are not awarded a trophy but there parents may keep saying that they are so proud of you and your great at a sport when really you probably just sat there playing in the dirt.Sound familiar?.This will probably make you feel really good about yourself but have you ever stopped and thought do i really deserve this…

Kids across America all compete in many different kinds of sports. Whether it be soccer, baseball, football, hockey, basketball, track, and many more. From what I have been taught in school, only the winner and second and third would usually receive medals for their accomplishments and success in their certain sport. While I am still encouraging kids to play sports and be active and fit, people should not be rewarding kids for just participating in a sport or even getting last place.…

As shown above there is significant support for why the practice of rewarding all participants should be eliminated. Children in their minds realize when they truly deserve a reward for what they have done. Presenting undeserving children awards will not help them with their future and it negatively impacts those who deserve them by demotivating them to excel above others. Society needs to change this before children believe it is acceptable to always be like everyone…
