Though monarchies are the only types of government you saw in ancient history, there are a few different types of government systems. These …show more content…
This would be great, because then no one would be unhappy about a law right? Wrong. To have a democracy in ancient times would cause lots of problems. For instance, if there was someone who didn’t like a law that was being put in place, but everyone else did, her opinion wouldn’t make a difference. So if that person can vote for what they believe, but have it make no difference, then they would see no point in having a democracy anyway, and rise for power at some point. Another problem democracies would have, is that it would take a lot of time to make a democracy work. For example, because everyone in ancient times that wasn’t high-class didn’t know how to read or write, which is crucial to make government decisions. To have everyone learn to read and write in ancient times, would take way to much time and work. Back then, the only way they would be able to teach everyone would be to spend a ton of time teaching them, which would take time out of the day to farm or do any other important jobs. Not to mention the fact that going through every single law that was wanted to be placed, deciding your opinion on every law, and looking at whether or not to put the law into action would take way to long back then. This is a lot better than a democracy because it wouldn’t take time out of important jobs and no one else would have to learn how to read and write. Despite the fact that this is better than a democracy, it’s still not the best option. The problem is, for there to be an oligarchy in ancient times, the small group of people would always consist of high class people.(1) This is bad because the people in the group can all agree on a decision that could make things terrible for the lower class, just as a monarch can. Another problem with oligarchies is the fact that, like in the dictatorship, someone had a law that they wanted to be put in place, but no one else in the group agreed to that law, they could easily take control and start a monarchy. On the other hand, if the people outside of the small group didn’t like the decisions that were being made by the small group of upperclassmen, they could decide to switch to a democracy, which would later become a monarchy in the end
