Since the beginning of the teaching career I have had a passion for teaching students in an urban school setting. My dream, if I could do anything I wanted too, is to begin a program for older students from urban schools who want to go to college, or who want to do something with their life, but they do not think they can do it. I plan to help them in any way I can meet their goals and find scholarships so they can do whatever they decide they want to do. I want to be their personal cheerleader who believes in them even if no one else does. The one placement which was not an urban school placement was an intensive where I participated in the teaching of high school Japanese students whose lack of English knowledge placed them on a third grade level. Courtesy of all my practicums, I have experience with multiple ID, ED, ELL, gifted, and dyslexic students. I have also had the privilege to work with students of different genders, ethnicities, and races from all over the United States. I also taught English to students in Thailand while my family were missionaries in Thailand. That expeirnce has provided me with the unique opportunity of working with ELL who truly know no English. My mother homeschooled both me and my two siblings and my brother has been diagnosed with Dyslexia, ADHD, Bi-Polar disorder, and Asperger’s, which gives me a personal and in-depth understanding of how these things work and how to teach children who have these “disabilities.” Although I do have experience with many kinds of students nothing will truly prepare me more for working in an urban setting than additional, supervised, experience with students of all
