Athletes put in years of hard work to develop their skills which earn them these large salaries. If professional athletes weren't exceptionally talented spectators wouldn't want to watch them compete. Spectators willingness to pay to see this level of talent lends to the high salaries they receive. Ticket prices usually reflect the level of talent on the playing field and spectators are willing to buy those tickets because they want to see quality. They work hard because they want to please the crowd and coaches hoping they get more playing time and more money. That is one reason why athletes get such large salaries. You and I know athletes work hard because they train and compete up to 40 hours a week with excessive physical and mental strains. That is a lot of time and effort put into athletics. They also watch films of other teams or learn technique.
Another reason for their large salaries is that they can be considered an advancement of the human race. Their physical development is beyond normal, their talent levels exceed most, and they have reached a level of performance beyond expectations. Athletic competition were created to showcase these unique humans, but over time, no one imagined the levels of physical strength and talent that have been attained. With this progress you don't know what the future
