Safety is an important concept to those of all ages and must be reminded of at all times. There are several different types of people who ensure safety for the public. Many believe that these types of people only include those such as police officers, firefighters and doctors. However, there is much more to it. Those you see every day contribute to helping you live a safe life. One of these types of people include crossing guards. They are usually seen as people whom just help others cross the road, but the work they do is valuable. Crossing guards also remind the drivers to drive carefully, as there may be drivers who are on the road tired or drunk. In What Every Smart Driver Should Know (2006), Natural Resources Canada says that “Before getting behind the wheel, ask yourself whether you are physically and emotionally fit to drive. If the answer is no, for whatever reason, your trip should be delayed” (p. 42). These guards will help prevent collisions that could possibly occur from dangerous drivers, that are not stable to drive. Also, by helping the pedestrian cross properly, the road is clear for the drivers. The drivers can continue driving safely, without any confusions or distractions caused by pedestrians. Next, they can also help bikers, and allow the bikes to cross carefully. Bikers are just as important as anyone else, and they must be watched out for carefully. Most importantly, crossing guards can play a huge role in clearing the road for emergency vehicles, such as an ambulance, saving the life of the person in the critical condition.
