I learned cursive writing in 3rd grade, I was told I will only be able to use this writing in my adult life and continued education being forced to dedicate hours to it. Young children do not need confusing loops to mix with real letters but that's not to say they don't need a penmanship class. A penmanship class is still something young children should participate in to help with handwriting.
More time should be spent with students in the writing department on spelling not looks, young children need spelling skills not pretty letters, these letters won't apply in their lives.
Kids are constantly facing things in their lives that they do not know how to overcome. Schools teaching cursive is “not at all practical as a day-to-day skill in the modern, connected world” most kids will stop writing in school and type everything, a typing class would improve their skills much more in their lives (Pot 3). In a child's life today they spend more time on the computer than writing on paper.
Children should be taught how to navigate the internet and how you use it efficiently, preparing them for their adult lives. Some say children need their cursive for a signature, but people nowadays just scribble on that dotted line at most maybe one legible letter, An entire class does not need to be dedicated to that single dotted line
