He ruled China using violence by conquering the warring states. He defeated the other states so that he could have divine power. By defeating the other states, China grew much bigger and the bigger China was, the more power he got. The more states he defeated, the bigger the people’s fear for him was so, most of his power was build on the fear of the people that he ruled.

Shi Huangdi wanted to live forever, not only because he didn’t want his life to end but also to protect himself from the dangers in his afterlife. Shi Huangdi became crazy and began to think that demons would haunt him in his afterlife and the only way not to go to the afterlife, is to stay alive. So Shi Huangdi would consume large amounts of Mercury because he believed it would increase his time alive. He felt as if he needed to protect himself in his afterlife, so he liquefied mercury, so that he could surround his tomb with a sea of flowing mercury. He created an army called the terracotta army to guard his tomb. His tomb was locked very securely and was built deep into the ground so that it could never be found. He planned that all his workers, architects, everyone that knows how to get into his tomb would be sealed away with him. If it does exist, it mean it is very well hidden because our architects and historians have been searching for his tomb for a very long time and are still unable to locate
