As stated before, liberty is the state of being free within society from oppressive restriction imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views, but I don’t believe this definition gives the word complete justice. Liberty, in my opinion, means that you don’t have to worry day-in and day-out about someone taking away your passion in life. You don’t have to search for the freedom to do something because you already have it. Although no one throughout the course of their life will have the absolute liberty to do something, it is still a privilege to even have an ounce of liberty. …show more content…
It is important to have, but where did it come from?
I believe that liberty is a concept constructed from the human mind. If you think about the animal kingdom for example, there are no laws controlling the animals, so they basically have absolute freedom. Though, there is a natural order about things, animals don’t have anything authorizing them to act the way they do, neither law or morals, so we learn that without authority, liberty does not exist, thus making liberty a concept of the human mind. To further my explanation, if human society didn’t have a form of government, we would all theoretically be free to do anything. Since there is no law holding back anyone, then there is no sense of liberty to be
gained.
In the movie, Search for Freedom, athletes of once outlandish sports talk about their rise to basically, normality amongst society and what these activities mean to them. This did not help me understand what a fight for liberty looked like, but it helped me to comprehend that people have liberties. In the movie, no one, to my recollection, had to really go above and beyond to do what they felt was their basic right. Although, it showed me ways people expressed their liberties, in a lawful, obedient way.
Liberty, in my opinion, was probably the biggest thing that our forefathers cared about because with liberty comes freedom. The framers of our constitution were unjustly denied of any liberty to worship who or what they wanted, protests of what they thought was the best way to run the government and to have any say in it, and how they wanted to live their life in not all but many aspects. Our founding fathers wanted to make sure that their posterity didn’t repeat history and the government wouldn’t have control over the one thing that we all have, life. Although the government has a say in what goes on in some aspects of our life, it is controlled by the people so society never, hopefully, has to worry about the government controlling their way of life, etc.
In conclusion, liberty is a privilege to have, and is often overlooked by the people that always want more of it. America is lucky to have had forefathers that did not want history to repeat itself, and gave the people the liberty to have a say in the liberties that they can have in their everyday lives.
