Why Do We Need Dog Parks?

Every city needs a dog park for many reasons. Being a dog owner/lover myself, I know how important it is for all dogs to have access to a dog park. Some people may say it's a burden for tax payers, it may cause lawsuits, traffic and noise but there are solutions to fix those issues. First, I want to start off explaining how dog parks will benefit society and not only dog owners. Dog parks will raise property values. They will bring more people to the community once they see they're offered. Bringing more people into the community will allow for more money coming into the city and more people to be friends with. They will fill open houses or apartments people are trying to fill. Lastly, there will be less stray dogs wandering around because there will be less owners abandoning their dogs.
Exercise and socialzing is extremely important for the dogs' physical and mental health. It is proven by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), that if a dog doesn't recieve these two things, they will act out, bark continuously, and destroy objects in their home. When you take a dog to the dog park, it will release its' energy and get it's physical needs taken care of. By socialzing a dog at a dog park, they will learn how to behave in areas with other people and animals. This will result in less lawsuits or dog biting. There was a study in New York City when they started allowing dogs off-leash in dog parks. The dog bite reports decreased around 36,000 bites per year. A lonely, poorly behaved dog who bites, barks or destroys things has a high chance of being abandoned in animal shelters.
