Muscatine Case Study
Would a dog park funded by taxpayers money benefit the city of Muscatine? Many taxpaying residents would say it is a bad idea. Neighbors to such parks would probably disagree with building a dog park near their homes as well.

In my opinion I would have to disagree with building dog parks in Muscatine, Iowa. My main reason for disagreeing with building a park for dogs is my son is allergic to dogs. Some dog owners can be very irresponsible when it comes to cleaning up after their dogs poo on the grass. Why should the city fund a dog park with taxpayer money when that money can be used to build a recreational area for residents.

My second reason why I would disagree with building a dog park near home owners would cause a disturbance.

However, the city will also have the money they got from selling the property to help build the park. By building the park, you are also addressing the growing budget deficit by creating jobs. For example, you can charge people for boat launching or have a small appliance for fishing and snacks at the park. I think this is the best decision overall because you get to build the business complex which will create jobs and bring other businesses. Also, by building a small park, you will create more jobs and help Rid economy grow. The city want lose any money because the park will pay for itself by having festivals, appliance store and boat…

    The Town of Center Grove

Should Center Grove become its own town? Or should Center Grove not become a town? This topic has been the center of much debate recently as can be seen by all of those signs in people’s yards. My neighbors on both sides of me have posted signs in the yards expressing their opinion on whether or not Center Grove should become a town. One neighbor has a sign in his yard that says “Vote YES”. My other neighbor has a sign that says “No for Center Grove”. The issue is in the minds of all the people in Center Grove and for some, it has become very divisive. In my opinion, Center Grove should not be a town. The main reason is to prevent the increase of property taxes. Center Grove as a town would have to increase property taxes for the following areas: Cost associated with establishment of a town government; Taking over the cost of the maintenance of roads and infrastructure. The result of increased property taxes will be the loss of personal income, and those on fixed retirement incomes will be impacted the most.…

Being a dog owner myself, I encourage all city officials to consider the development of dog parks for their residents. The ability to utilize a dog park in my local city has not only allowed my dog to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but it's also allowed me to enjoy the outdoors with my best friend, while creating new friends in the process. I find this type of recreation more enjoyable and healthy for all involved, as opposed to being stuck indoors trying to entertain or please a bored canine. Taking my dogs on regular trips to the dog park allows them to sleep better at night, encourages them behave well in social environments and also helps them maintain their weight and physicial appearance. I couldn't be more of an advocate for these facilities.…

The response is on an article by Farhad Manjoo, which published in the New York Times which explains how recently how human beings and dog’s relationship have changed to the public. The author expresses his dislike about the dog, "No, I Do Want to Pet to Pet Your Dog," is a believe against the "cultural assumption the everyone must love dogs" and he is furious because "in the last decade, dog achieved dominion over urban America. They are everywhere now, allowed in the places that used to belong exclusively to humans, and sometimes only to human adults: the office, restaurants, museums, buses, trains, malls, supermarkets, barber shops, banks, and post offices". He expresses his opinion on how he feels about the dog left in public place that is reasonable and of great concern to everyone and I believe everything that pertains dogs. Farhad maintains that he doesn't "actively despise mutts," and while being in total accord with his opinion, we do disagree with him completely here.…

Finding adequate housing that will allow certain dogs to live in these establishments can be hard to find. Completing daily tasks like going for a walk or visiting certain parks or places can also be very limited based on what. The opposition stance against BSL believes that “regardless of the fact that it has proven to not only cause harm to responsible pet owners, but also smear the lines between legal and illegal” (worldofangus.org). Pet owners who have been able to have dogs without any problems should not be hindered due to the fact that other dogs that share a breed with their own dogs have caused possible harm in the…

I would like to see breed bans taking effect in more cities across the U.S. Over 600 U.S. cities have adopted breed-specific laws since the mid -1980s, just after pit bulls (fighting dogs) began leaking into the general population (Vegas, Calhoun, Mader, 1988). Denver is one of those cities, in 2004, the Colorado State legislature passed a statue increasing the penalties and liability for dog attacks and prohibiting any legislation based on breed. This law effectively repealed all pit bull breed bans in Colorado. However, the city and county of Denver contested the law, claiming they were a “home rule” city and the state legislature could not dictate local ordinances such as dog breed bans. They were successful at the district court level and their pit bull breed ban was reinstated. There are appeals in process contesting this ruling, but at this time, breed ban legislation is legal in Colorado for cities that have home rule charters. Unfortunately, during the time this issue was being resolved, there were several highly publicized pit bull attacks and several other Colorado cities moved forward with pit bull legislation of their own. (“Animal Rescue of the Rockies,”…

As a young child my family had a dog. We loved to play with him, but noticed that we had limited yard space to play games such as fetch or even tag. We lived in a small apartment complex, and were forbidden to enter other neighbors yard. My sisters and I felt that a dog park in our town would be just enough space to play without the drama of disrubting the neighbors. In the passage, Gizmo's owner strongly believes that there should be a dog park in his town of Muscatine, Iowa. I as a previous dog owner my self believe that this would be a great idea.…

The city is definitely in need of a dog park. It would benefit not just the dog owner and the dog but the entire community. We all know that dogs can be very loud and very annoying but all they need is a place to let out all that energy. Allowing dogs to be off their leash in a safe enviroment also allows them to tire down before going home. Which will benefit the neighbors of any dog owner.…

This memo evaluates proposed land use options raised by Oakmont City officials. An assessment of the financial and non-financial implications suggests that building a parking garage with fees favoring short-term parking potentially yields the most desirable outcome. This investment produces the highest net present value (NPV) and helps solve a parking space shortage. Earnings generated by the garage should be used to offset negative externalities associated with the project. Further analysis into the impact of price hikes on parking utilization, and the types of parking spots that will improve the current shortage is needed to strengthen this assessment.…
