Why Do We Need Dog Parks?

Being a dog owner myself and a strong supporter of outdoor parks in cities, I believe that dog parks should be built in cities to increase pet health and give pet owners a legal place to bring their dogs. My family and I live in a rural neighborhood without sidewalks making it very difficult and dangerous to take our dog Casey on walks. The only exercise she gets is trying to run in our cramped backyard. Our situation with Casey is similar to Gizmo’s problem with finding a place to excersise. Many other pet owners like us face similar challenges with finding a place for pets to run free and stay healthy. This challenge could be overcome by creating a dog park in the city for the community (and their pets) to enjoy. This way, dogs can run free and maintain their health.
The blog “A Dog Park Benefits All”, mentions that dog socialization is critically important in preventing attacks on new people or other pets. It also states that when New York City allowed dogs off of leashes, dog bites dropped from 40,000 to less than 4,000 every year. Again, I can relate this to my own situation with my dog Casey. Although Casey is gentle and kind to people, she used to have a problem with being around other dogs and wouldn’t play nice with them. However if she would’ve been exposed to other dogs from an earlier age, she wouldn’t have had this problem.
