In some situations the school has to drop the specific program all together. Making a decision that will affect a large amount of students is a very difficult decision; thus deciding what program they believe is the least worthy of funding. When a decision is made, it is expected to have outcry from students and parents. In the end not every single person is going to come out happy. This leads to what is the best option to target for budget cuts. Some believe that funding cuts should be focused on strictly extracurricular activities. When others believe it should target other aspects of school expenditures. I believe that if a school is in financial trouble, and are forced to make a decision on a specific program, activity to target it should be done equally. They say that those are not important to the main purpose of a school; which is to provide the best possible education to the students. Extracurricular activities are a very expensive part of schools; if a school can spend that amount of money in other areas it could be very beneficial to students. One example is in the Chicago area one of the more successful high school football programs, allows for more than one hundred thousand dollars as a budget for an entire year. All of that money is just too allow students to play under the “Friday Night Lights.” A football program is however the most expensive extracurricular activity that is offered by a high school. That high school is an example of one of the more successful schools, another Chicago area high school football that is not as successful; the team’s budget is only almost five thousand dollars for an entire
