I will easily be the first to admit that my parents heavily influenced the core of the person I am today. When I was eight and my family packed its bags and migrated to America, my parents left everything behind-their business, their parents, and their home-to obtain more opportunities for their children. I continuously observed my parents struggling to make ends meet, something that wasn't a problem in Pakistan. As I quietly observed my parents grapple with life, their sacrifices for the betterment of their children’s future molded my work ethic and motivation, their selflessness inspiring me to always be the best person I can be.

I always enjoyed helping people, and prompting others’ happiness in turn creates joy in my heart. Apart from my role on Sundays as an assistant teacher at the Islamic Education Center, I am also in the MAHDI group, an assembly where we create sack lunches for the needy and distribute it in Downtown Houston. I have also volunteered at City Medical Center for two years- a non profit clinic for the underprivileged where I withdrew patient vitals, shadowed the doctors, and undertook office work. A few of my other volunteering experiences include volunteering at the Houston Food Bank, The Sugar Land Branch Library, and Marrit Senior Living, a senior citizen center. All these opportunities cultivated me into a leader who is unafraid to take necessary action. In fact, when Hurricane Harvey unleashed its destruction onto my hometown in Houston and several other states, I desperately jumped at the chance to help, wishing to alleviate the suffering of thousands of people. Knowing I had to act quickly, I did some research and decided on creating sack lunches with sandwiches, waters, and granola bars and distribute them to the local shelters. I hosted and organized the event at a friend’s restaurant, and with our combined efforts, we created over 200 sandwiches!
