Two qualities are leader ship and compassion. When being a surgeon having leadership will show that a surgeon will be a good leader and not a follower. Everyone will look up to the person who is leading the group not the person who is following. A leader will have to be aware of things, make tough decisions for everyone, have empathy, have accountability, have confidence, have optimism, they have to be completely honest, they have to have all of their focus or attention on everyone meaning their patients and workers, and they also have to have a lot of inspiration. They have to believe in the good most of the time. They can't be negative or they won't be considered a good leader. The other quality is compassion. Having compassion is very important for a surgeon to have because they don't have time to worry about their feelings. They have to worry about their patient and the patients family members feelings. The reason they have to pay attention to their patients feelings and their family members feelings is because they have to try to put positive thoughts in their head so they can look at the good and better picture and not the bad picture. Being compassionate shouldn't only be in a surgeon, every one should have compassion. Every one has to care about other people feelings.

Finally, being a surgeon would be fun, that's why I wrote an essay about surgeons and doctors. I previously introduced you to surgeons and

Not just physical health, but mental and social as well. Surgeons have the opportunity to do all three! Those in need of brain surgery are obviously in a very dire situation, sometimes hanging between life and death (Petitjean). Sometimes, a neurosurgeon is their last hope. These patients are at their most vulnerable. Their doctor has the chance to either make this an uncomfortable, scary experience, or one of trying to make the patient happy as possible, regardless of their prognosis. Michael Schulder, neurosurgeon once said "You have to separate what's in the hand of God and what's in the hand of man. It may be painful to watch, but you have to learn what you can from it, do your work, and move on." (Petitjean)…

I am a very positive, open minded person and I always look forward to working with other people. I always accept new challenges and I have proven to work very well under pressure. I would also say that I am independent, a fast learner and a hard worker, which I feel are all important qualities in an aspiring surgeon. My volunteer experience in third world countries with Me to We, and at Royal Victoria Hospital, have really opened my eyes and proven to me that the care of others is very important, and I find it necessary to put others before you, especially when it comes to the health care. Being accepted into this residency program would allow me to put my skills to good use, and to acquire more helpful skills that will better my future in the medical field.…

My initial motivation was to study medicine. However, this novelty of an idea wore off as I have learned that the road to success and pursuit of happiness in life is not necessarily a straight one. This has encouraged me to follow my heart no matter how daunting the journey can be. William James once said “the greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being has the power to alter his life by his attitude”. It is deeply rooted in this philosophy that I desire to become a physician assistant (PA) where I hope to provide quality healthcare to the underprivileged, an area of medicine, which I have noticed to be dramatically underserved.…

This aspiration has never wavered, and has only become more a part of who I am today through first hand experiences and opportunities I have had in the medical field. I have been fortunate enough to see surgeries first hand, work next to medical professionals, and get an idea of what different occupations bring to the table in the field of medicine.…
