Why I Want To Be An Effective Section Leader
Being an effective section leader means being willing to make sacrifices, and above all to be a hard worker and to strive for nothing but the best for yourself and your peers. I have a lot of experience in leadership roles, because I was Vice President of my NJHS class and for the past two summers, I have volunteered to supervise and guide first and second graders at Vacation Bible School. I also have played soccer since I was about four years old, and have played club and select soccer since about fifth grade. In both seventh and eighth grade, I played basketball and volleyball on the A team and participated in track and cross country. Being a part of these teams has given me a great experience in leadership roles and the way I have to act …show more content…
My basketball coach, Coach Ray, was supportive and determined, and I want to replicate how she led my team through hard work and resoluteness. My humanities teacher, Dr. Poston, provides a fun environment as well as a base of professionalism. I want to be able to provide her civility as well as the fun and pride that can come from being in band. My soccer coach for three years when I played club soccer was encouraging, and led me to be the best me I can be. I wish to do the same for my section, and lead everyone to be their best potential, all while feeling …show more content…
A leader sets an example in rehearsals and performances, and that means to lead by example. During and after school, a leader should be deferential and respectful to their peers. This is especially important off campus, whether with the band or individually, because one is representing Clark Band. A leader should be known as dependable, admirable, honest, responsible, and much more. I understand many people want to contribute this, but I would be a better asset because I have many goals for this year, and a lot of motivating for meeting them. I like being in charge and having the opportunity to teach other people what I can. I want to work hard for myself and for others to succeed, and I believe that can be best achieved if I were in a leadership position. But if I am not in leadership, I still want to contribute and set a good

Leadership is a lifestyle, not a role one adopts. Leadership requires strength and power, but also the ability to empathize and recognize others' needs. As a high school student, I have had many opportunities to be a leader, whether it be through clubs, group projects, or extracurricular activities. During my Junior year, I assistant directed the play Steel Magnolias under the eye of my drama teacher as well as a college student director. This role allowed me to learn the ropes of directing as well as take care of the six girls cast in the show. I adapted the role of the "stage mom," making sure every hair was curled to perfection and every prop was in its place, as well as ensuring their lines were memorized and their staging was proper. I believe that a leader must be honest and have high ethical standards for themselves as well as their team. Confidence and communication are critical to getting the entire team on the same page. A leader must be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas to their team. In order for the team to work together as one unit, they must understand the path they need to take and what the result should look like. When the leader exhibits confidence not only in themselves but their team, people will be more likely to follow their lead. Lastly, inspiration. The reason I, Terrence Patrick, want to be a leader is because I feel that leading is what I was meant to do. Ever since my sixth grade year I have wanted to be a leader in any organization I could be in. At Meadowbrook Middle School I was the trombone section leader for two years which were my seventh and eighth grade years. I felt that with myself in charge of the section I would do everything in my power to better it and make it successful. I also was the president of the “Safe Ambassadors” program where I had to control and lead the group of individuals to mentor younger students. These things have encouraged me to audition…

I was a part of the Newnan High School Marching Band my tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade year. It was a great experience. The Newnan High School Band became like a second family, and the band room was my home away from home. As it got closer to my senior year, I started wondering who was going to get the title of clarinet section leader my last year of marching band. I felt like I would be the one for the job. When they finally informed us that leadership applications were available, I was excited to get my application. I wrote an essay and prepared for my interview. I knew I had the qualities they were expecting in a section leader. I was kind to others, hardworking, friendly, helpful, understanding, and approachable. I anxiously anticipated…

Holding the office of drum major in a marching band is a very strenuous duty. Most individuals consider drum majors to be the face and entertainment of the band, specifically with show style marching bands. However, the role of a drum major demands a more imperative trait that separates incompetent drum majors from exceptional drum majors. The trait of leadership is a superior factor in the character of a drum major. Leadership is not equivalent to control, however, leadership is a form of serving the followers who are in need of guidance. A leader is a person who represents the whole class and motivate them. I did not believe I was a leader. During my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I was a quiet spoken individual who listens to what others have to say. It was not that I did not have anything to say, but it was the fear of saying something wrong and others disregarding what I had to say. I did several presentations in high school that made speaking in front of people more easier. However, I was still the timid person who wanted desperately to break my shell but did not know how. A shocking moment had occurred when I had became secretary of Zonta Club. It was junior year and I was surprised to have been part of the leadership team. I was able to discuss my ideas and to speak with the members at ease. It was my breaking point. I was given a privilege to be part of something that made a change. I was not just the soft spoken person, but I was a leader…

Although I may not hold any official leadership positions, I believe that I possess the necessary characteristics needed in any good leader and enjoy utilizing them. The main place that I see myself as a leader is on the soccer field. On the JV soccer team for the last two years, I played nearly every available minute at center back, or middle defense, rarely coming off the field. As a player who can see nearly the entire field, a center back has many other jobs other than one on one defending. One of the center back's principle responsibilities is to make sure that all of the other nine outfield players are in the correct position.…

My leadership experience starts back in fourth grade when I was student council president two years in a row. I served on student council in middle school as well. In high school, I have had the great privilege and honor of being a student leader, both at the school as Class President, and statewide level. I was one of two elected Senators to represent this school’s club in the Youth Gold Senate of the PA Youth and Government program. For my sophomore year, I was elected to the position of Senate Minority Whip, giving me the opportunity to run party caucuses in the Senate and work to dozens of young leaders. I also received the Outstanding Gold Senator Award for my work amending bills in the Senate Law and Justice Committee and for my work as the Whip. I think my leadership…
