Why I Want To Become A Veterinarian
Like other kids, I had a childhood dream. Some may have wanted to be firefighters or ballerinas, but I wanted to be a veterinarian. While most of their dreams changed as they got older, mine stuck and I am determined to achieve it. I would always play vet as a kid, but little did I know 10 years later I'd be working towards this dream I had so long ago. Having an aunt, that is basically a mother to me, who worked in the animal field gave me the opportunity to learn a lot about animals at a young age. draining a hematoma at just 7 years old was one of my first hands-on experiences. From then on, I was hooked. Helping an animal gave me a feeling I couldn't explain even today. That proved I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Starting my first job the day I turned 16, buying my own car soon after and having bills showed me a little about what it's like to be an adult, but not in the same way animals did. Being around animals has taught me responsibility, observation skills, and compassion.
Dogs have to be fed, groomed and taken on walks. Birds need cages cleaned, horses need their stalls mucked, there is always something to do while you have an animal around. I can't just ignore what they need and have them take care of themselves, it's something I had to do whether I wanted to

These things help me prepare for my future and allow me to keep learning before I enter college. There is a lot more to animals than their cuteness. When animals have broken bones, open wounds, or worse you have to know what you're doing. Precautions have to be taken and working fast with no mistakes during some points is needed. Since I go to school and work and I like to make time for a social life, I tend to get things done in a timely matter. I do my homework the day I get it, I don’t procrastinate, and I stay organized to ensure everything is done the way it

In "A Change of Heart About Animals," a 2003 editorial published in the Los Angeles Times, Jeremy Rifkin argues that new research calls into question many of the boundaries commonly thought to exist between humans and other animals, and as a consequence humans should expand their empathy for animals and treat them better. To support this argument Rifkin points to studies suggesting that animals can acquire language, use tools, exhibit self-awareness, anticipate death, and pass on knowledge from one generation to the next.…

Choosing the career that I want to spend the rest of my life doing is something that was extremely difficult for me. It is hard to understand the concept of selecting what profession is just right for me, and what I may be interested in and want to pursue every day for the rest of my life, especially at such a young age. I have thought about different schools and jobs, as well as the pros and cons, for what seems like my whole summer and senior year. Questions troubled me, about what I wanted to do, for awhile until it finally hit me. I needed to stop worrying and do something I am passionate about. My love for animals has always been the one constant thing in my life. I have always had pets and could not imagine what life would be like without them. Working with animals is something I know I will always be passionate about. There is a saying that I now go by, "Do something you love and you will never work a day of your life.”…

I am the proud owner of a little brown dog named Bruno. I rescued him from the pound while I was in high school. The pound was unsure exactly what kind of dog Bruno was, but stated he is part Dachshund. I mentioned earlier, I rescued Bruno, but in reality he rescued me. My senior year of high school was not the greatest time for me, but owning Bruno got me through it. At the time, I just broke up with my high school “sweetheart” so to my immature young mind, I thought the world was coming to an end and I would never find someone else. Whether it was taking Bruno for walks, or trying to teach him new tricks he kept my mind occupied. I was given the responsibility to take care of him. I made sure he had all of his shots and there was fresh food and water for him. Until he was house broken, I was responsible to clean up after him. By being responsible for another being, it keeps a person centered not always thinking about themselves and their needs.…

I have handled and cared for a variety of animals there including African and Red Footed Tortoises, Great Horned , Eastern Screeched and Barred Owls, an Emu, a Red Tailed Hawk, Lemurs, Goats and Fox Squirrels just to name a few. From there I started shadowing Dr. G, a local veterinarian, where I was exposed to the true realities that come with the duties of being a veterinarian. I will always remember the first time that Dr. G invited me to observe an euthanasia of a dog. Dr. G not only showed compassion toward this dog that he cared for since he was a puppy, but also to the client’s young child that was having trouble coping with the imminent death of his beloved dog. After shadowing for several months, Dr. G recognized my enthusiasm for animals and offered me a part-time paid position as a Kennel/Technician Assistant where I was able to participate in hands on animal care.…

By doing so, I have been taught responsibility from a very young age. At eight years old, I was taking care of a dozen chickens, multiple dogs, and many reptiles. It takes an extreme amount of effort to train a rescue animal, especially if they were abused; it takes a long time for them to gain your trust, mostly. By now, I have taken care of dogs, chickens, ducks, snakes, parrots, cockatoos, parakeets, doves and fish, just to name a few. In doing so, I have found that most importantly, I manage my time more efficiently.…

First be a Veterinarian is probably every kid dream, when you love animals. This dream starts when I was probably 5 years old and keep it on my mind until when I was 15 years old. I remember a program which was about a summer camp, in which many kids travel to other countries and they were little veterinarians. I always dreamed to be able to be in that summer camp but I was not able to realize that dream. For the other side I got my first dog when I was 6 years old. He was my patient when I played to be a veterinarian. This dream is really significant to me because taught me to love animals, to be good with animals, and enjoy my dog when both were little.…

My mom once asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and like many other eight year old girls I responded, "I want to be a vet Mommy!” She looked at me and answered, "Well, Megan, if you want to be a vet, don't just aim at working with cats and dogs. Be a wildlife veterinarian!" Mom inspired me to dream big, and to never settle for the traditional or ordinary. From that moment on, I set all my goals as high as I could. Only am I satisfied with myself when I either achieve or surpass those goals. She taught me to expand my horizons; to grab life by the reins and soak in as much as possible. I am a dreamer, and I discovered my most ambitious dream of all when I found my singing voice.…

There are certain responsibilities that every person will assume when they consider owning a pet. Pets require the same amount of love and tenderness that a person would bestow upon a newborn child. Pets need attention and interaction with the people at home, and an animal needs to be exercised on a regular basis in order to help keep weight gain from occurring and to help the animal feel more like socializing with others in the home. Many pet owners are quick to select a pet from a pet store and even quicker to select a certain pet food.
