The past year has been very difficult in my family because my father got cut off of his good paying job which covered most bills, but recently I was able to work more often. I put less stress off my parents shoulders by helping them with things they needed around the house. We were able to get back on their feet at least but this Bloch scholarship would be a Financial saver towards my parents because I don't want my educational goals make them struggle. I want to be able to help my parents and already give back to them. To do that first I will have to go to college to be able to get a good paying job. Also secondly it will allow me to get situated with being out of high school and moving on into college. I know it will help me get comfortable since I can move on into a bigger college with more students in a classroom by time.…
I don’t know if I feel that saying that I deserve this scholarship is the right thing to say, but going to Japan has been a goal of mine ever since I can remember. My grandfather was the one who really got me interested in Japan. He would always tell me stories about the culture, people, the little bits of language that he picked up, and the time that he spent there. My grandfather would have loved me going to Japan and would have supported me whole heartedly. I want to go to Japan not only to see what he saw, but also to improve the little that I know and improve myself.…
I have always heard people say, “College is the key to success” and “The best way you could have great job, is by going to college”. Honestly, I always believed that you do not have to go to college. I never even wanted to go to college. At that time, I felt that college was a waste of time. The reasons why I decided to go to college was to see if college is for me. Secondly, I decided to go because of my mom and my mentor. Lastly, I want to better myself as person and succeed in life.…
It was at my aunt’s birthday party, when I made the decision to attend college. She asked me that day,” Mija, are you going to college?” At first I hesitated, “Si” . Then she told me, “Are you sure because that is exactly what your older sister said and she ended up pregnant.” After hearing those words, I knew for sure I wanted to be the first in my family to attend college. I wanted to prove her what I said I meant it and was going to make it come true.…
I would like to attend college because I want to have a higher level of education after high school, to make my own money and not having to live on the streets. I would also like to be more independent. My career I’m still unsure of what I want to do because I’m interested in more than one career and I can’t decide which one fits best for me. My family mainly influenced my preparation and motivation towards college and having a better future, my parents never went to college and they both have their high school diploma. In the soon future I never want to have an experience of almost being homeless, asking for money, or having to get food stamps or be be associated with section 8.…
I will use the money from this scholarship to help pay for my tuition so that I will be less in debt later in…
As I am sitting at my kitchen table typing this and as I am typing and thinking of why exactly I deserve this scholarship, as I am erasing and typing, my mother keeps looking at me. As I ask her why she is looking at me and asking so many questions about my text. I realized why she was asking so many questing about what I was doing or why it is that I was focusing so hard on an essay. She didn't understand because growing up she was not given this opportunity or for that matter any hope of education. I am a junior who is going to Kansas City Kansas Community college studying to receive my CNA license. My counselors and peers told me to not try because only seniors make it into the program. Me being the hard-headed I was still applied and a…
I believe I am deserving of this scholarship because of three key reasons. My first reason that I believe that I deserve this scholarship is because I am a person who is very active in my community. I perform lots of community service with my Boy Scout Troop (58), such as tree planting, benefit dinners, garbage disposal, and the purchasing of Christmas presents for the poor of our local community. I am very active with my troop and have accumulated dozens of service hours with them. I love to help my local community in any way that I can.…
When I think of college, I think of self-improvement. The years that I will spend pursuing a degree will be a time of personal development. I will progress in various areas of my life, such as interpersonally, socially, and mentally. A new state, new friends, and new environment, are numerous reasons for why I want to attend college. However, one of the dominant reasons for me wanting to further my education is the “knowledge”. College is the next step in education as well as one’s maturity. I will be leaving home and going to a different state to start a new educational journey. I look forward to being away from my parents; not because I think they are not cool, but because I want to become independent. I believe that up until this point my parents have protected me and provided me with astounding wisdom. Now it is time to implement all they have taught me in my life. I will be on my own, and will make my choices based on the foundation of values and morals my parents have instilled in me.…
My dad recently lost his job and with my mom paying for the college tuition of both me and my sister, financial resources in my family are spread thin. Being the first generation in my family to attend college also means that I have to shoot for the moon and beyond. It’s about justifying that my parent’s sacrifices were worth it, that the countless hours spent in a searing kitchen, that the shifts that dragged into the wee hours of the morning and that the choice to spend their hard earned money on my education were all for something better. As such, since I can’t work full time, I would really like to ease the financial burden that college education is taking on them. A scholarship from LSA will allow me to further not only my educational dreams, but the aspirations that my parents have for me. By taking these summer classes under a scholarship, I can not only put my parents at ease, but also dedicate the time to really hunker down and focus on getting better grades for medical…
I am Katrina Sanchez and it is a luxury to work and study at the same time here in the United States of America. I am saying this because not everyone has this kind of opportunity that I have. I have been praying for this for so long since high school, and now, I can really testify that one of my longtime prayers has been answered. I am the eldest in the family and I have three younger siblings. I am the very first person in my entire family to study here in the US and I am very excited to set standards for everybody else in my family to follow. In regards to educational attainment, my parents both graduated from college and received their bachelor's degree in the Philippines. On my part, I desire to surpass what they have accomplished because…
Hello friends. I deserve this scholarship because I own the paramount educational values that will guide me throughout my educational journey. I have a clear idea in mind of what I aspire to do with my life, and that makes everything much easier for me. Confidence is the best word to describe myself during this time of life. I go to a great school that I love, have amazing friends, and have been raised with parents who I want to make very proud. My academic goals include maintaining a 3.0 GPA for the rest of the three years I'm in school and earning an Exercise Science degree. From there, I plan to eagerly apply for jobs as I am tremendously excited about this degree and what it pertains. I am pursuing my passion, and that is what it is all about.…

The Affton Alumni Association Scholarship will make a difference in my post-high school education in three ways: financially, educationally, and personally. Financial assistance is a necessity for many college students, particularly those planning careers that require many years of education beyond the undergraduate level.…
