Why I Want To Pursue A Career In High School
I've accomplished quite a bit in the few short years I've been in high school: I’ve participated in the school’s Literary Magazine, helped start a GSA program with a few other friends, taken a number of honors courses, became apart of our Academy of Information Technology, started teaching a dance class for younger children, and quite a bit more. One of the first programs I joined my freshman year was GIR Tech, which is almost like a mentorship program. We provide free, in house, high quality work for the entire district when requested, which may be for a variety of events, including sports events at our stadium, awards ceremonies, political debates, and theatrical productions. We work backstage, at the light and sound boards, as ushers, and …show more content…
It has also given me the ability to work well in high stress situations, and calmly handle guest and directorial problems. It has been an enormous influence on my high school career, and has helped me realize that I want to go into technical theater, specifically sound board operation or theater management. Though there are specific majors for this career choice, high school has lead me to find another passion of mine: coding, which is why I’d like to go to school for computer science. Not only can someone make a lot of money going into the field, there’s also a high demand for those proficient in the field, and it’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever come across. There are programs I‘ve worked on for months, and when they’re finally complete, there’s an instant feeling of gratification that comes back every time it runs properly. I hope to one day go into either of these fields, both of which I find extremely enjoyable and fulfilling. In the meantime, I’d like to finish high school, go to college and study computer science, and if possible get a job or two to assist with tuition and other living

Although I can’t answer all the questions about how I’ll do it, I’m certain that I want to make a difference in the world. Barnard’s atmosphere and its joint theater program are the main factors that have influenced me to apply. Academically, Barnard is known for its intimate learning environment. I’ve spent my entire life going from one close-knit group to the next. Whether it was Taekwondo, Dance, Theater, or The Commonwealth Governor’s School, each of those groups were empowering, nurturing, and noble in their own individual ways. Barnard embodies all of those qualities, which is what I find attractive. Also, the joint-program for theater really speaks to me because it’s my personal belief that collaborative endeavors create true art. It’s true art that touches the lives of those who work on it and those who see it.…

I’ve acted, danced, sung, worked a follow spot, gained experience with directing, playwriting and criticism, and worked as a student dramaturge. I’m an extremely dedicated and organized member of my college campus, and am grateful to be a member of the Honors Program here at Miami University. Currently, I hold both an internship with the MU Press, where I assist with social media, marketing, photography, and research, and a part-time job as the assistant to the e-Marketing manager of AtlantaNewHomesDirectory.com. From all this, as well as my background in being a perfectionist, I’m very organized and great with time management. I’ll actually be graduating from Miami a semester early, which is something I’m very proud…

I have partaken in TI@ti, sophomore year and currently, which is an organization based on increasing leaderships skills and increasing awareness against drugs and alcohol. Last year, I guided peers to make healthier life choices and to take positive risks. I stepped up when my advisors, Ms. Ramirez and Mr. Rosenfeld (at the time) needed presenters for the PTSO meetings, Saturday Academy for 7th and 8th graders, and for 600+ seniors who attended prom last school year. The Saturday Academy was a huge leadership role where I had to advise seventh and eighth graders on what to expect from high school. I volunteer at various locations such as for the 9/11 Day of Service, Jersey Cares Day, and Paterson’s Operation clean up. In all of these services, I did landscaping because I felt as if the…

For as long as I can remember, I was interested in math and science. Math comes naturally to me—I enjoy the consistency that goes with it and completing each challenging problem. Similarly, I can never get enough of science, especially marine biology. Of all my subjects, science is the one I pursue most frequently outside of school; however, I always wanted something more. I was introduced to programming in my AP computer science class, and from the first day, I knew it was for me. Computer science is an excellent amalgamation of the math and science I love, embedded with the perfect amount of logic. I have enjoyed every second of my computer science class and, no matter what, hope to continue the field in the future.…

It was at my aunt’s birthday party, when I made the decision to attend college. She asked me that day,” Mija, are you going to college?” At first I hesitated, “Si” . Then she told me, “Are you sure because that is exactly what your older sister said and she ended up pregnant.” After hearing those words, I knew for sure I wanted to be the first in my family to attend college. I wanted to prove her what I said I meant it and was going to make it come true.…

I’ve always had the same answer to the question of what I want to do when I’m grown up: “I don’t know, something I enjoy hopefully”. As overused as I think the saying is, the cliché saying of “Find something you enjoy doing, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” does have some truth to it. Computer science is that thing I’ve found that I do truly enjoy, and getting into a career in it does fulfills the career goals I have for…

Education has always been one of the most important things to me, and I am dedicated to learn as much as humanly possible. Throughout my high school career I have challenged myself by completing six advanced placement classes and taking other honors classes. I have taken these classes as a way to help guide myself for what is to come in the future in college. I was inducted into the National Honors Society during my junior year of high school, and I graduated with honors. Both of these successes are the two greatest accomplishments of my high school career. These two achievements prove how dedicated I was, and still am, to getting the best education I could. My quality of dedication will stick with me throughout my future endeavors.…

One of the hardest experiences for me was having two shoulder surgeries in high school. Although it may not sound very traumatizing now, two surgeries meant that my cheerleading career of 14 years was over. When something that was such a big part of your life for so long is taken away in the blink of an eye, it feels like your whole world is crashing down! My senior year was exceptionally hard for me considering I was trying to make the perfect decision on my future college, my father was traveling 2 hours for work each week, and I was trying to recover from a right and left shoulder surgery. These surgeries prevented me from trying out of the cheer team as a fourth year member and it left me devastated. At the time, I was concerned about regaining…

The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…
