Why ICT need to be used for the survival and growth of in manufacturing
Firstly, before we discussed about why ICT need to be used for the survival and growth of manufacturing business, we need to know what is information, what is information system and what is information technology. Information is data that have been shaped into a form that is meaningful and useful to human beings. An Information system can be defined technically as a set of interrelated components that collect, process, store, and distribute information to support decision making and control in an organization. Information technology consists of all the hardware and software that a firm needs to use in order to achieve its business objectives. In this age of information, almost all fields of endeavour such as education, manufacturing, research, games, entertainment, and business treat information systems as a need.
Now we would like to discuss why ICT need to be used for the survival and growth of manufacturing business. Information and communication technologies (ICT),play a vital role in the manufacturing industries’ competence, competitiveness, and processes and jobs the world over. After oil & gas industry, manufacturing industries stand second largest companies by revenue in the world. Most of the successful manufacturing industries such as automotive (Toyota), electronic (Apple,Samsung,IBM), aerospace & aircraft(Boeing) .....are stand first in the world as digital manufacturing firm. ICT forms the basis for most advances in almost all aspects in modern world including manufacturing technologies; it is considered to be key for an advanced manufacturing strategy.
ICT can be used from the stage of acquiring materials to selling the finished products. Through its capacity to integrate and blend a number of knowledge intensive technologies, ICT can enable traditional manufacturing base to be competitive in a global environment.
