Why Is Abortion Illegal
In this day and age abortion is quite common. A lot of women have abortions due to lack of responsibility, lack of money, being too young, ect. In the late 1800’s-1900’s abortion was frowned upon and not taken lightly. Why? Many people believed it was a crime and sin against God. This is part of the reason abortion should be illegal.
Abortion is the killing of unborn humans. Killing is murder and murder is illegal. Senator Howard states that “Science proves that an unborn child is a human being.” As a matter of fact, the 14th amendment of the Constitution points out that, “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, …show more content…
liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” This amendment protects one’s right to life. We as United States citizens are supposed to follow the Constitution of the US and stand up for it, if it is being violated. Abortion also goes against the will of God and the Bible. The 6th commandment specifically states, “Thou shall not kill.” Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I formed thee in thee belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nation.” This bible verse is protecting the fact that we are created by God for a purpose, not to just be killed off before we’re even born.
Not only does abortion kill the baby, but it puts the mother’s health at risk and could even kill her.
Cervical cancer is a leading health factor to watch out for after having an abortion. Cervical cancer due to an abortion is said to be because of untreated Cervical damage from the abortion. Additionally, Ovarian and Liver cancer can also take effect due to abortion, says the Elliot Institute. Studies show that mothers who abort are 4 times more likely to die within a year of having the termination compared to mothers who carried out their pregnancy full term. Having an abortion also increases the risk of having problems in future pregnancies. These problems can include, but are not limited to, Premature birth and Handicapped born children. These complications can be harmful to the mother during labor/birth. Premature birth can be the cause of Traumatic Stress. Kathleen Kendall Tackett notes that “A study of 40 parents of babies in the NICU found that 44% of the mothers met full criteria for acute stress disorder, while none of the fathers did. Acute stress disorder was also associated with alterations in the parental role, which included not being able to help, hold or care for the infant, protect the infant from pain, or share the infant with other family members.” They concluded that these terminations had been emotionally traumatic events that led to severe posttraumatic-stress responses that persisted for years.” PTSD, as has been stated, can be very hard on the …show more content…

Some people have come to the conclusion that laws opposing abortion are killing women. What they mean by this is that in places that abortion is illegal, women have it done in secret. This is dangerous and against the law. In most cases, the abortion is done unprofessionally and could injure or kill the mother. So no, the laws do not kill the women, their choices get them killed. Additionally, it is also said that abortion reduces crime. News 24 agrees that most abortions happen due to the mother being a teen or the mother being in poverty, so the child is unwanted. They state that these children are likely to be raised in poverty, so they have a greater chance of being involved in the criminal world. Abortion may reduce crime in some cases, however, abortion itself is a crime and today is illegal in some states. Another major excuse used for terminations is “It’s my body, so it’s my choice.” This statement is false. It is not just the mother’s body. The child is actually a whole different body. An unborn child does not have the same genetic codes as the mother and human embryos are not controlled by the mother. That being stated, it is very unlikely that the child and the mother have the same
