Genetic engineering can help prevent the majority of diseases and illnesses by by isolating the gene that is causing them. It can also be be used to treat infectious diseases. To do this the genes associated with antigen and antiviral proteins are implanted. The most wanted traits of specific organisms can be determined and integrated into another organism’s DNA. The genetic diversity can be increased by genetic engineering. It also can produce variant alleles that are able to be implanted into different species. Also it can enable the possibility of changing the heredity of the wheat plants and also grow insulin. Genetic engineering has had mixed effects on society. Some believe that genetic engineering is massively beneficial and will pave the way to improved medical treatment. Others …show more content…
This is because many believe that an unborn fetus is still considered to be a human being or potential human being. This is thought by many religious faiths, such as the Roman Catholics. The use of negative eugenics is also cause controversy in ethics, concerning the fundamental human rights to life. Negative individual eugenics is justified and accepted only when the patient in question is living a life filled with pain and suffering due to severe genetic defects. In these cases genetic engineering can be morally justified as it could be used to dominate or placate a rare disease. However the issue against is that some people believe that it shouldn't be used for the sole purpose of upgrading an individual’s genetic makeup. They believe it should rather focuses on the field of positive eugenics to enhance the genetic stock of the human species by the selection of individuals with desirable genetic characteristics, rather than getting rid of people with undesirable
