It’s getting late now so i’m going to bed in hopes that my hand will heal a little faster. It has been awhile since I have wrote, but there is some very bad news that has everyone shaken up. Hernando de Soto is dead! His feaver was increasing very rapidly, and nothing could fix him. We all knew he wouldnt make it and even he himself said that he was not going to live. He may have lied and cheated other people but over all he was a very great and noble caption. We have made plans to have him wrapped, weighed, and dropped into the Mississippi River. This will not stop us from doing what we where sent out here to do! We are going to coninue the expidition and finnish what we have started, after all its what Hernando would have wanted. We do’t have many men left, about 300 is the least amount i can say. Not alot of food and supplies but we are back on the

In the excerpt from the autobiographical narrative by Gary Soto, the author uses vivid imagery, allusions to religion, and change in tone to recreate his experiences from his six year old self. Soto begins by involving the reader into the excitement that he feels while glaring at the freshly baked pies, he then vividly represents how he transgresses his valued religious principle, and steals the pie. He concludes by illustrating the aftermath, and describing the remorse that he underwent after realizing he had given into a reprehensible temptation.…

On his quest, Quesada encountered Indians who told him “that Chief Bogotá, who lived to the South, was the richest of them all.” (Crow 1992, 124) Bogotá, chief of the Muisca people, had fled to the mountains to escape Spaniards thieving his treasure. However, these Spaniards had already caught up to him and had accidentally killed the Chief. Bogotá was replaced by Sagipa, and that was whom Quesada and his men pursued.…
