thing where they knew that people are naturally social so that wasn’t gonna be an issue for them. The island was a paradise because there was no one else on the island but the kids, there was warm weather there, so was the ocean they also have soft sand and tropical trees which is the epitome of a paradise.
Ralph show’s that he has most of the positive human characteristics discussed by John Locke from the book Lord Of The Flies.
At the time Ralph had found the conche and called everyone into a meeting and they were talking about what should happen and what they should do. “We’ve got to have rules and obey them, after all we're not savages we're English; and the English are the best at everything so we got to do the right things” (pg 34). This relates to Locke because John Locke believes that people need to have a government, vote for things that should happen and he also feels that everyone should be equal. This ties in with what Ralph said because he also thinks that they should have a little democracy. They should have it about what should happen . They should vote for everything and not have someone say what they …show more content…
want.
Ralph and John Locke share the same kind of law in order thought process in the novel Lord Of The Flies.
As soon as Ralph was voted the chief he immediately makes a good choice by handing over the power of controlling the hunters “the choir belongs to you then” (23). Another example of Ralph exemplifying that he is like Locke“Ralph looked up we can use this to call the others” (16). Ralph’s personality is one that comes off kind of like Locke’s but their is a side to Ralph that will make him seem like he is Hobbes. For an example “No one not even Jack would ask to move and in the end they had to build the fire three yards to the right because he would not move” (73). This describes that Ralph and John Locke have the same mindset when it comes down to how to resolve
conflicts.
In the story Lord Of The Flies by William Golding Ralph starts off the story being more like Locke but right about the middle he starts changing to be more like Hobbes. "Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things”(pg30). This implies how Ralph was Locke because immediately he knows since everyone is arguing that they should vote for a chief. Locke believes that there should be a government so that everything is equal with everyone. “Something deep in Ralph spoke for him I'm chief. I'll go. Don't argue” (pg155). At this point of the story this is where Ralph becomes more on the Hobbes side and because he is standing up for himself and telling people what to do and wasn't taking no for an answer. Lottery winners are often unhappy after a few years of winning the lottery. These people have never had so much money so as soon as they get all the money they won they can finally get all the things that they have always wanted to buy but never could afford. This usually leads to the buying of things that are just expensive because they have the money for it. There are many examples of this in the Lord Of The Flies. For example, they land on the island where they have a water source with fruit, meat and they are all alone without any adults which is pretty much a different version of them winning the lottery. They also were unhappy in a matter of weeks and ended up killing two kids and almost burning down the island.
