Why Is Shakespeare Still Relevant Today
Written over four centuries ago, William Shakespeare’s plays are still being used today through live performances, film adaptions, or in the classroom. Through his influence on modern language and his use of stylistic devices, he shows that his work is still relevant in classrooms. Although some people might think otherwise, Shakespeare has made a big impact in modern society. A major influence he has made is on modern language. Speech today has evolved a lot from his time, but Shakespeare has made up words and phrases that are now commonly used. Words used today such as bloodstained, caked, and gloomy are words that he has made. His plays are also widely quoted. The well-known quote “To be or not to be” is from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
