Why Is Technology Being Allowed In School
Technology being allowed in schools can be a very hard topic to talk about because they are so many pros and cons of both sides of the argument. Quite frankly the only possible answer is opinion based and up to the person who is in control. I personally believe that technology is a great thing to have in school. Technology can be a very horrible thing to give to a child or teen in some cases if they have not showed themselves responsible enough at the house. Like if they are always on it in the house and never can take a break from it that clearly shows that if you allow them to bring it to school they will always be on it and not be disciplined enough to know when to get off of it. Which would just end up giving them stress and fortunately

    Like any situation, there are pros and cons to both sides of the argument. According to Barshay (2014), “We had the money to buy them, but maybe not the best implementation. It became unsustainable” (p 1). Barshay is referring to a school in New Jersey that was able to acquire technology; however, they did not know how to properly use it in the classrooms. Not knowing how to integrate modern technology into a classroom setting is not a good enough reason to say giving students laptops is a bad idea. According to Hertz (2007), “The first step in successful tech integration is recognizing the change that may need to happen inside of yourself and in your approach to teaching” (p 1). Hertz argues that it is in fact possible to integrate technology into the classroom if the teachers are open to learning new ways to teach while incorporating technology. Another concern is addressed by Winnie Hu in an article about laptops in the classroom. Hu (2007) says, “The students at Liverpool High have used their school-issued laptops to exchange answers on tests, download pornography and hack into local businesses” (p 1). This article addresses some concerns that parents and teachers have about how much access their children are receiving. No worries! After this speech you will have all the rights to go against who ever would not let your school have laptops/computers. "How is it possible to convince my headmaster to let us have computers in school?” A Chinese proverb once said: “Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in a different time.” It clearly states how the minds of the elders and the juniors are so different since they were born in different times or even centuries. Would you rather listen to a person who has a mind to create more possibilities and not stick to the old rules or a person who sticks any same old rules that their elders once told them and rule the school?     Teachers must have a plan to limit off-task use of handheld devices while increasing student interest in using the devices as educational tools. In order to do this, teachers will need to explain and enforce consequences when the rules for using handheld devices are broken. Juli Di Chiro, a superintendent in Oregon, commented on misuses of technology in a recent article for the Ashland Daily Tidings. Di Chiro noted that “technology isn’t the root of the problem.” She then said, “It’s like any other misbehavior and we have to make sure if that does happen, that it’s a learning opportunity for our kids, so they understand that if they do those things that it’s not appropriate and we’ll need to redirect them” (Guzik 2). Di Chiro realizes that students regularly misbehave; they aren’t misbehaving simply because they have technology at their disposal. The real problem is the students’ attitude toward learning. When students do misbehave, restricting them from using technology for a short while will be advantageous as it will take away something that can enjoyably be used to learn. When students see that if used properly the handheld devices allow them an entertaining mode of learning, they should be less likely to misuse the devices in the future.…
