The founding fathers created the three branches of government, the legislative, executive, and judicial branch. Throughout these branches, they have many different roles where they check one another in order to manage check and balances. The roles presented in the legislative branch present opportunities where American citizens with the certain qualifications can play a role within the most important issues in the government. These people elected as well as the president are chosen by the common people. The structure of the government is important and relevant throughout our communities, states and nations because it gives the opportunity for the common people to vote and participate in the national government. These roles would have not possible by our past presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison. Also, they were at the forefront of creating, maintaining and mostly progressing democracy in America.
In 1787, the members of the Constitutional Convention looked towards creating some sort of representation by having white males who could have property could vote and that most white people had the natural rights of man. They had liberty, life, and the pursuit of happiness. These ideas rooted from the Constitutional Convention came from people like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, who eventually became presidents and kept these ideals of democracy and representation throughout America. Then later throughout history, democracy and representation throughout the people progressed. As early as 1795, Washington and his cabinet include a Bill of Rights, which are 10 rights that all American citizens which they could be protected by. Later in 1865, because of Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson, slavery is abolished which gives people of different race some liberties and freedoms. Then in 1920, President Woodrow and Congress ratified the 19th amendment for women to vote which ended gender discrimination pertaining to voting. Then throughout the 1960s, President Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson played a huge role to make all people of all races have equal rights and liberties. Soon, many people have a voice, have the certain freedoms and liberties that represents the progression of democracy and representation in
America. Past presidents are still relevant because in some ways they are hugely responsible of America’s expansion from 13 to 50 states. In the early 1800’s Jefferson bought the Louisiana Purchase from France for $15,000,000. The purchase immediately convinced Americans to move westward, some looking for riches in gold and others looking for free land. James K. Polk is another president that is hugely responsible for American expansion. In his presidency, he secures the Oregon Territory and acquire the territories of California and New Mexico. The expansion of America is important and relevant as it created a mix of new cultures and it presented new territories where many cities are now established such as San Francisco and Los Angeles. The fifty year old tradition of commemorating past presidents is still important to our community, state and nation. Past presidents have been responsible for structuring the government, creating and maintain democracy, and the American expansion to the west. Past presidents have structured a government where nowadays, anybody with the certain qualifications can be eligible to run as a representative or vote. They also created democracy and progressed it with more representation and higher morals to go along with these amendments. Finally, they are responsible for expanding America.
