Why, in NSW is Shakespeare a compulsory text? Because…

Michael Mack, Shakespeare professor at the Catholic University of America, gives his orientation speech, “Why read Shakespeare?” (collections 2008) in order to persuade incoming freshman students to continue reading Shakespeare. Mack convinces students of the importance of Shakespeare using a biblical allusion referencing the parable of the prodigal son in the bible. This professor argues that Shakespeare is worthwhile in order to help freshman students understand the value of such complex writing. Mack appeals to CUA’s newest students by presenting his argument in a professional, academic manner.…
An Argument by Michael Mack explains how "Shakespeare offers a lens into the real world with the case being that his works are as serious as any common core class you would find in schools." (Mack) Comparing anything like that to a core class you would take in high school would be a bit too studious…
Shakespeare should be taught in the ninth grade curriculum because of his rare dialect, his language he created is something you don’t hear today. His plays are really entertaining and people are still interested in watching his plays from people who are living today.…
Some may argue that Shakespeare is important as it helps with deeper thinking, and may help students further in life. On the other hand, some may argue that Shakespeare is no longer relevant for today's students. So, the question still stands, should we include Shakespeare in today's curriculum?…
Shakespeare’s works are not limited to expressing the concerns and interests of a narrowly confined historical period. They have in them the…
My first reason that I used was that students can be taught about the language Shakespeare uses and they can also gain a wider vocabulary. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses old English or Anglo-Saxon. Old English is very different from modern English but isn’t that hard to learn. In act 1 scene 3, Lady Capulet says “Nurse, where’s my daughter? Call her forth to me.” In modern english it would have been: “Nurse, where’s my daughter? Tell her to come to me.” Although old English is no longer used, it teaches you a lot about how much our world has changed.…
Oxfordians also try to say that Shakespeare lacked the education to produce such wonderful masterpieces. However, Richard Field, “who grew up down the street from Shakespeare, became one of the leading publishers and booksellers in London.” (David Kathman and Terry Ross, 4)…
At times in life, you think that love is gone. You think that once something leaves, it leaves forever. Something that most of us don’t know is that love stays forever, whether or not we think that it left. In the story of Romeo and Juliet, love is a big part. Love lead to the first scene and the last scene of the book. There was also violence too. Many people debate whether the story of Romeo and Juliet should be taught in ninth grade. In my opinion, i agree with that it should be taught in 9th grade because of what it teaches us. These reasons are that it teaches you why you should love someone for the right reason, why you should be amiable to everyone, and how you would do something differently if you were in a similar situation as in one of the scenes..…
When Shakespeare was a kid going to grammar school, a school open to boys only by the way! they learned Latin, Greek and rhetoric, persuasion through logical argument. Students read Latin and Greek writers to learn about the history of ancient Greece and "the glory that was Rome” and this material was translated by them into English or French after many hours of work. I 'm glad the school curriculum of the 21 st century has evolved and we no longer spend our days doing boring stuff like that! Their old-fashioned, subjects that have little relevance in the modern world of the internet and space travel. The question is: shouldn 't we allow our education system to further evolve and file Shakespeare in the same drawer where we 've stuck Homer, Plato and Ovid? Given the society of North America in the 21 st century, Shakespeare 's relevance is declining with each new technical advance. The purpose of this essay is to prove isn 't it time to address this question head on, even at the risk of causing legions of English teachers to collapse in horror?…
For me I personally think that Romeo and Juliet shouldn’t be taught in high school. I say this because if you honestly think about it what is there to learn from it that will help you in your future. I also say this because the book is about romance and kings, queens, princesses in like high royalty. But our lives aren’t in high royalty we aren’t kings or queens we are just your typical ordinary people. Lastly I think that the book is a more higher education of understanding for like college people because I feel like us high schoolers won’t understand the meaning of the book.…
"... School leavers, the working, school dropouts, the old and young; all these people could quote or misquote Shakespeare. What mattered is that they quoted Shakespeare" Dr.Tom Odhiambo, author of "To quote Shakespeare used to be a mark of proper education". Most teachers in this era prefer to teach the Bard, while others do not. I believe that teachers should be required to read the plays of Williams Shakespeare because of the fact that they could tell others they have had the opportunity to read a Shakespeare play, so they could give themselves a higher level of status when they recite a part of one of his plays, and Shakespeare has many things to offer about life.…
Should or should not Shakespeare be taught in 9th grade curriculum? People have different opinions on if it should or should not be taught. A few reasons it should be taught is because Shakespeare presents universal truths, one can learn new vocabulary, and Shakespeare is entertaining. To begin with, Shakespeare presents universal truths. Universal truths are truths that the whole world can understand and relate to.…
Because you can actually understand the words being spoken without the need to reach for a thesaurus as one typically needs to find the meaning(s) of words that appear in Shakespeare's works, it is a lot more enjoyable to listen to and watch. This allows it to seem more true to life and easier to relate to, especially for, dare I say it again,…jocks!…
Time to Drop the Bard Should the Bard be read or be forever forgotten? Shakespeare is taught in schools all around the world. Even though he wrote over 400 years ago. Imagine how much the English language has changed over the years. Shakespeare should not be taught in the ninth grade curriculum because the English language has changed over the past years, he’s not relatable, and he is not meant to be read but to be acted.…
Shakespeare’s name extends further from the minds of writers and authors, but also to the minds…
