Why Should We Go Green
Why should we go green? About 56% of all energy in the economy is wasted. That’s more than half of our energy being meaninglessly wasted by unused electricity, transportation, industry, and commercial use. I think that people should make the choice to have a green lifestyle. It is not hard and the simplest choices we make in our daily life’s can help our environment and even save us money.
Every day we can take simple steps into beginning a green life style. Turn off lights when you leave a room or do not need the light on. If you are not using the water while brushing your teeth turn it off. Another simple task is to unplug cords that are not in use; by implementing these steps and others into your daily routine you can save energy and roughly fifty dollars every month from your electricity and water bill.
Other ways to save energy and money are to think about investing in products that are specially made to support a green lifestyle. Everyone has heard of the eco friendly cars; these have better gas mileage and also put out fewer toxins into the air and decrease air pollution such as greenhouse gas emissions. You can also purchase energy efficient products for your home, such as washing machines that use less water and power or even something small like switching to CLF light bulbs. You can also buy clothes that are made of recycled materials. Many companies have chosen to use recycled products for their clothes.

If you are looking to build or remodel your home you might think to look into green products. There are many choices of building materials for homes that support a green lifestyle. You can find products that are recycled such as flooring or cabinets for your home. There are also different types of insulation to buy that save more energy by keeping your house warmer which lowers your heating bill. The materials used in greener homes also have fewer toxins, which means the air inside your home will be healthier and better for your body.

After reading and watching several supplementary mediums I can undoubtable say that America's economy should go green. Although this route may become a costlier method for America, it is also the most beneficial method for America as well. America is burning fossil fuels at a monumental rate, and the effects are going to become irreversible soon. For example, global warming is one of the possible irreversible effects that could result from burning excessive fossil fuels. There are endless ways I could be more sustainable. The obvious would be to install solar panels and water tanks but everybody has already heard of that, so I thought up of some that not many people have thought of. Firstly, I can be more sustainable by taking four minute showers. This will save about 9.5 litres per minute. In addition to this, you also save the energy required to heat that water to shower temperature. Another way I can be sustainable is turning off the lights after leaving a room. Electric lights left on needlessly waste energy and, because I don’t have solar panels, this is burning fossil fuels that pollute the air. Finally I will ride my bike or walk on the bike paths to places close to me such as my dance school. This will ease traffic congestion, keep me healthy and reduce air pollution caused by car…

Each person can help conserve energy by walking, riding a bike or carpooling instead of individually driving to help control the pollution to our environment. We can recycle paper, plastic and glass. By doing this we are helping protect some of the trees that are being cut down to make paper. Plastic can be used to make other things and conserve some of the oil that is used to make them. Glass containers can be reused or recycled to make more glass containers. We also reduce consumption of energy resource by turning of lights, fans or televisions when they are not in use. By doing this we will also save money on our individual energy bills.…

Nonetheless, saving energy not only benefits the planet, but our ‘pockets’ as well. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a simple task like replacing the light bulbs in your home can save up “75% energy of the 10% home energy costs.” Or simply unplugging electronics and appliances when not in use – a task made easier by using multiple-outlet strips, which can turn everything off with the flip of a switch – can save you money. For example, Leaving a computer on all day can cost about “21 cents per day, or about $75 per year” (U.S. Department of energy). Also, according to Goldemberg’s article “Energy for the New Millennium”, 78% of CO2 and 23% of methane is expelled from energy activities which are ultimately major contributors to indoor air pollution, urban air pollution, acidification and global…

Before completing this reflexive diary I would have considered myself fairly energy conscious. I would have still said I’m wasteful but I thought I was more aware than others. I thought I knew more about the environmental consequences of wasting energy than I did. Completing this diary really opened my eyes to the amount we all waste energy unnecessarily. Almost all of us don’t have a clue how much energy we consume. I had never thought about it as anything more than the lights and the heating at home and I’m sure many others are the same. As the week went on I started to realise more and more how much energy I alone was using in a day, then I began to notice how much my friends, family etc. consume and how much could be saved so easily. When thinking about the project I noticed how much the college could reduce its energy consumption simply by making the students and staff more aware and encouraging them to change. However, I also know that even though something like turning off a light when you leave the room is an easy task, it’s very hard to get people to even remember to always try to conserve energy. Convenience is also a big factor. Since finishing the diary I have been thinking that a plan could be made to educate the students and staff of the college on the reasons for energy conservation and showing them how much can be saved from doing so little.…
