FDR Analysis
Fredrick D. Roosevelt became president in 1932 after beating out former president Herbert Hoover by seven million votes. He happened to step into the presidency at the same time of the Great Depression worsening, which was originally caused by the stock market crash of 1929. The economic state of the United States was at an all time low as factories and businesses were shutting down, and unemployment was at an all time high. Immediately, as Roosevelt stepped into office, he started taking initiative by creating the New Deal. Roosevelt sent the message that everyone needed to come together for the time in need to do whatever they could to help. He asked for no animosity, as everyone needs to be contributing their part. He installed new production in factories to start making war materials for Britain. He promised to maintain economic stability for his citizens, if in return they helped him with the supplies and support for the allies, and unity amongst each other. He didn’t keep his citizens sugar-coated, as he still stated “Let us no longer blind ourselves to the undeniable fact that evil forces. are already within our own gates.” Which essentially expressed that even though they were not currently under attack, they needed to be ready for it at any given point. I feel that Roosevelt went in depth with the current situation at hand, and kept his nation informed on the potential danger, while keeping a sense of comfort. He asked the citizens to amalgamate, and work with one another to keep up with the fast paced preparations for Britain. He proceeded to say “They ask us for the implements of war, the planes, the tanks, the guns, the freighters.” This implemented
