Why Was Samuel Morse Important

American History is a complex fabric that is woven by many notable people. Did you know that Samuel Finley Breese Morse is most commonly known for his invention of the single-wire telegraph and morse code. Morse was actually a painter before he became interested in electricity while in college. If it wasn’t for Morse, we wouldn’t be where we are at with today’s communication systems. Since Samuel Morse was the inventor of the telegraph and Morse code, The U.S. should create a monument in his honor. First of all, Samuel Morse is the inventor of the telegraph. This invention was a huge deal to everyone at the time, because before then, people had to send messages by mail. Letters were sent by stagecoach or steamboat, and this took a very long
time, especially to far places. However, the telegraph changed all that. Telegraph lines were set up all throughout the country. People could now send messages much faster than U.S. mail. Schools, Hospitals, large buildings, and Post offices all had telegraphs in them. The telegraph impacted the U.S. by a great deal, so that is why there should be a monument for Morse. Samuel Morse inventing the telegraph is not the only reason he should have a monument for him. Morse was also the inventor of Morse code. Morse code is a series of dashes and dots to represent letters. Someone would put the code in the telegraph and the message would be sent. After the message was sent, a pencil would print the code on a piece of paper. When Morse code was invented, almost everybody had memorized the code because it was used so often. This code was not just used for the telegraph, the military used this to communicate with each other with lights and sounds over long distances. Many countries adopted this idea and changed the letters to fit their language. Samuel Morse was an inventor of his time, and his inventions changed the way people communicate. You could think of Samuel Morse as a hero for what he has done for people and the military.
