Her Majesty the Queen
Queen of England
Buckingham Palace, London SW1A 1AA

Dear you’re Royal Majesty,

The role of the queen has been around for around 400 years; currently the Queen is Queen Elizabeth the second. The queen currently rules England, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and a few others. The Queen is the head of state for Canada, yet she is more of a symbol than an active participant in the government. The Queen has been around for many years, she has been a high moral character, and she leads a key role in Canada. Even though she is on our coins, dollar bills, even new Canadians pledge loyalty to her and her successors, but this is outdated and unnecessary. As in my previous paragraph I stated that this Monarchial system is no longer needed, for we do not pledge loyalty to the queen every day, we barely notice the Queens presents in Canada, other than hearing her in the news or on the internet. She has been to Canada only 24 times over the entire span of her rule, and we pay more for the Queen than the British do currently. We pay $1.53 per capita while the Brits pay only $1.32, over the last 10 years our payment to the Queen has doubled! In Canada there are two heads of state, the Queen, and her representative the Governor General; with cutting out the Queen we could keep the role of the Governor General and which in fact would mean we wouldn’t be paying the Queen $1.53 per capita, which is relatively around 40- 50 million dollars Canadian. The Queen is suggested to be a part of our colonial roots which no longer serves a purpose in present day Canada.

The British Monarchy is a show piece that stands to represent the old ways of the world. They have been losing power gradually but steadily over the last two hundred years. In Australia their presence serves as merely ceremonial with a little political power that is seldom used. However removing the monarchy from the structure of our country would mean losing sporting opportunities, relations with UK and an affinity with our culture as an English colony which steadily grew from rags to riches under hard circumstances.…

Queen Elizabeth was a great ruler but had to deal with sexist stereotypes that believed women should follow their husbands and should not have any power. They believed men were chosen by god to rule the world. The people who fought for the queen said that the queen would never take attention from God and that it was the duty of the people to follow the ruler, and the ruler was Queen…

Canadian law has inherited a lot of different principles from Great Britain. One of the things that the law has taken is the common law is common law which relies on case law and is common to all people. It does not matter who is breaking the law, whether it be the queen herself, everyone has to abide by the rules. The rule of Precedent has also been influenced by the British case law which is a method of deciding cases based on recorded decisions of similar cases. The jury system of Great Britain has influenced our jury in Canada. In olden times (In England), they consisted of 12 members. Now the jury consists of 6 people. Canada’s rules reflect British rules in a great way.…

Globalization means that Canada is playing an increasingly important role in other countries through foreign policies. Therefore, foreign leaders are providing additional checks and holding the Prime Minister responsible for the decisions they make (Baker, 2014). The media provides important checks and balances to the office of the Prime Minister through dissemination and interpretation of public information besides questioning government decisions. Enshrining public service by the laws and constitution by establishing the office of the Prime Minister reducing the public officers appointed by the Prime Minister will help reduce the powers of the Prime Minister. In addition, the parliament should be empowered through transfer of former Crown powers currently vested in the office of the Prime Minister (Axworthy,…

In theory, the Parliament is the most important institution in the Canadian government and all members of the parliament are equal. The Prime Minister is supposed to be primus inter pares, meaning first among equals. But over the years, the cabinet has become more institutionalized and less departmentalized. Hence the Prime Minister’s power has increased over the years. Canada is the one of the most decentralized federations in the World. Power is swung away from the parliament and is more concentrated in the executive branch (Courtney, 1984: p. 241). The Prime Ministers is not too powerful in a global scale but it has substantial power within Canada. However the power of the Prime Minister can also be affected by many different factors. .…

A poll found that “… for every one Canadian who wants to abolish the monarchy, two want to preserve it ”(Citation). This means that the are double the amount of people who are in favour of keeping the monarchy than there are people who want to get rid of it. Furthermore, this poll unanimously shows that the Canadian public see some value of having an active constitutional monarchy. Although the monarchy has lost much of its power and now plays only a small role in politics. they are still relevant in modern day society. One of the biggest arguments against Canada keeping the British Monarchy is cost to the Canadian tax payers. In a time of financial uncertainty, such as right now, all additional costs will receive extra scrutiny; the British Monarchy is a victim of this. However it has been estimated that the cost of the British Monarchy is $1.53 per person per year (Citation). Although many may look at this expense as unnecessary, it does serve a purpose. In addition this expense is so little that the average Canadian would most likely not even notice any difference if they did not have to pay the additional…

More attention needs to be on the part that Monarchies have played regarding the evolution of Canadian democracy. Many Canadians tend to forget the importance of the Crown, though they are not to blame as it is a subject hardly heard of or spoken about in school curricula and media outlets. For five centuries, the Crown has been a symbol of strength in Canada. With an extremely stable and responsible government, the Crown’s involvement is disregarded and forgotten. According to many polls, majority of the Canadians who are aware of the Canadian Monarchy wish to abolish it completely and would rather have a head of state from within Canada but, “Monarchy advocates argue for its continued relevance in parliamentary function and as a symbol of…
